Building kindness, confidence and nurturing our school communities 💙

We were proud to have recently hosted Anti-Bullying Ambassador training for our students delivered by The Diana Award, working alongside students from West Bromwich Collegiate Academy, Shireland CBSO Academy and Thorns Collegiate Academy.

The programme encouraged students to explore the different forms bullying can take, including face-to-face and online behaviour, and to develop the knowledge, confidence and practical strategies needed to support their peers effectively.

Each student completed the training by developing their own action plan and formally stepping into the role of Anti-Bullying Ambassador. It was a practical, thoughtful day that placed responsibility and trust firmly in the hands of our young people.

This training builds on the school’s previous involvement in The Diana Award’s national campaign, developed in partnership with Head & Shoulders. The campaign explored appearance-based bullying through film and a podcast episode, which has been shared with schools across the UK.

We’re proud to support and empower our students as they take on this important role and continue to contribute to a culture of respect, inclusion and peer-led support.

We recently welcomed Year 5 pupils from across Shireland Collegiate Academy Trust to Shireland Biomedical UTC for a STEM-focused workshop day exploring renewable energy and healthcare.

Delivered in partnership with Solar for Schools, the day gave pupils the opportunity to learn more about renewable energy and its role in reducing carbon emissions, before taking part in practical healthcare activities within our specialist facilities, including first aid and CPR training.

For many, it was their first experience of a secondary and post-16 learning environment, offering an insight into the specialist spaces, equipment and pathways available in healthcare, science and sustainability.

It was fantastic to see pupils engaging so positively with the activities and exploring the opportunities that could lie ahead of them.

We’re so proud to see our students taking part in the podcast from The Diana Award , in partnership with Head and Shoulders.

The series looks at bullying in a really honest way, not just what it is, but how it shows up in everyday school life and what young people can do to support each other. Our students spoke openly about appearance-based bullying and the importance of looking out for one another, especially when someone might not feel able to speak up.

It's great to see their voices included in a national conversation that is helping schools and the wider public think differently about how bullying is challenged, and empowering young voices.

What does it really take to apply for medicine or dentistry? 🩺🦷

Our year 12 students spent the day finding out, taking part in a hands-on UCAT workshop delivered with Study Mind. From fast-paced problem solving to tough decision-making tasks, they experienced the kind of pressure and thinking the test demands.

It’s not just about preparation, it’s about confidence. Giving students the chance to try, reflect and push themselves is a key part of how we support their next steps.

Thank you to Study Mind for working with our students and helping them take one step closer to their future careers in healthcare.

A powerful example of student voice in action 🎬

Students at Shireland Biomedical UTC helped shape this year’s national anti-bullying campaign with The Diana Award and Head and Shoulders. Through the project, they explored the impact of appearance-based bullying and contributed to a film designed to raise awareness and encourage open conversation.

As a result of their involvement, up to 50 students will receive Anti-Bullying Ambassador training, equipping them with the skills to support their peers, promote inclusion and champion The Diana Award’s mission 💙

A little Easter thank you before we broke up for the holidays 🐣

In the final days of term, students took time to visit classrooms across the academy to hand out Easter eggs to staff as a simple way of saying thank you for everything they do. Our Mini SLT helped deliver them around the school, making sure every department was included.

It was a lovely moment to end the term on, with lots of appreciation shared across the building and plenty of smiles along the way.

We hope everyone has had a restful break and we look forward to welcoming our students back for the new term.

Yesterday, some of our Year 12 students with an interest in medicine and healthcare stepped into the world of virtual reality. Partnering with an innovative VR company, students had the chance to diagnose virtual patients, prescribe treatments, and experience the fast‑paced decision‑making of real clinical environments.

It was an inspiring and thoroughly enjoyable day. Opportunities like this are at the heart of what we do — ensuring our young people gain the experiences that help them grow in confidence and truly stand out in their post‑18 applications.

We’re incredibly proud of their curiosity, ambition, and enthusiasm. The future of healthcare looks bright.
