Is your baby suffering from colic?

Approximately 30% of babies have colic. It usually begins in the 2nd week after birth, peaks at around 6 weeks and decreases after 3-4 months.

I have had lots of little ones graduating from Baby Sensory recently and mums are always asking meโ€ฆ

Whatโ€™s next after Baby Sensory?

Let me introduce Toddler Sense! ๐Ÿ’™๐Ÿ’›

Toddler Sense is an adventure play programme spread across two years of fun and engaging sessions. The programme is suitable for Toddlers aged 13 months to 5 years. Each session is different and brings fresh ideas and themes with a mix of structured activities and free-flow exploratory play.

Toddler sense brings together sensory play, physical activity and plenty of exciting music to create a magical multi-adventure experience.

Our local Toddler sense is run by the incredible Hannah from Toddler Sense Walsall and Cannock. The sessions take place at Pelsall Community Centre.

We take Dominic and it is an amazing way from him to build life skills, socialise and burn off some of that toddler energy!

Hannah has offered a FREE taster session to any Baby Sensory West Bromwich graduates! So get in touch with Hannah to find out more (and make sure you mention that your Baby is a Baby Sensory West Bromwich Graduate!)

โ˜€๏ธ 3 Ways to ensure you and your baby get enough vitamin Dโ€ฆโ˜€๏ธ

Vitamin D is essential for good bone health and development.

โ˜€๏ธ Sunlight is the most important source of vitamin D,(it provides 95% of the vitamin D required for healthy bone growth) although precautions should be taken during peak UV radiation hours to avoid sunburn.

โ˜€๏ธ Vitamin D can also be obtained from dietary sources. Oily fish such as sardines, pilchards, mackerel, salmon, and fresh tuna are the richest sources, although small amounts are also found in eggs and meat. Some breakfast cereals, margarines and yoghurts are fortified with vitamin D. Food, however, only contributes about 10% of the bodyโ€™s vitamin D requirement.

โ˜€๏ธ A daily vitamin D supplement can help avoid deficiency in pregnant women, and breastfeeding mothers and babies during the winter months. Infant formula is also fortified with Vitamin D and will benefit those babies having above 500ml of formula milk per day. Once your baby is older and is having less milk and more solid food, chat to your Health Visitor about a Vitamin D supplement suitable for babies above 6 months of age.

๐Ÿ’™๐Ÿฉต Blue Monday ๐Ÿฉต๐Ÿ’™

Looking after a baby or toddler, being constantly on call and coping with the daily demands of life is not easy.

Here a few tips from our Founder & leading parenting expert Dr Lin Day to help you cope:

๐Ÿ’™ Get outside as often as you are able to. Sunlight promotes the release of seratonin which increases the feeling of happiness & wellbeing.

๐Ÿฉต Try to eat a healthy diet with a range of different foods. Over consumption of carbohydrates and sweet foods can lead to feelings of fatigue.

๐Ÿ’™ Keep yourself hydrated by drinking 8-10 glasses of water a day (keep a refillable water bottle near by if that makes things easier whilst feeding or playing with your baby).

๐Ÿฉต Try some light to moderate exercise - whether that's simply walking (combine it with getting outdoors), going to the gym or getting back into another sport, any type of exercise is great for the production of those mood-boosting endorphins!

๐Ÿ’™ Meeting up with other parents and their babies. Social support often really helps your mood and provides you with a time to seek reassurance and advice from other parents (or vice versa!)

If you are looking for somewhere to meet with other parents, try our award winning Baby Sensory classes. Find out more and book a class by visiting www.babysensory.com

๐ŸŒœ Does my baby need a bedtime routine? ๐ŸŒ›

You don't need to have a bedtime routine for your baby but for some parents and babies it can be helpful to start to implement one, after the first few months.

As a parent, you know you and your baby best so choose a routine that works for you both. What's most important is that that routine is simple, consistent, realistic, and achievable for you AND soothing, pleasant, and reassuring for your baby.

If you'd like some ideas of what to include in your baby's bedtime routine, head to our latest blog: https://www.babysensory.com/sleep

โ„๏ธโ„๏ธโ„๏ธ Happy first day of winter! โ„๏ธโ„๏ธโ„๏ธ

I always feel like winter begins promptly the day after Halloween but actually today marks the winter solstice, the shortest day of the year and the first day of winter.

Winter is another amazing sensory season to introduce your baby too. We have the sounds, smells and sights of Christmas and the New Year.

Then those crisp cold winter walks, with or without snow. Bundle baby up warm in the pram and head outside for a walk. Great for helping to keep the winter blues under wraps.

Talking of snow, if we do get any this year (probably in January around my birthday as always!) this will be a beautiful thing to experience with your baby. Cold, white and shimmering. Falling from the sky and collecting on the ground. Letting your baby experience the snow (appropriately dressed of course) is just wonderful. You can even bring the snow inside in a bowl or bin, so they can experience the snow in a more controlled environment.

The longer nights and shorter days can be really hard for some people, but try and make the most of it. Get out and about when you can and curl up together with stories and play when you canโ€™t.

Here is to a wonderful sensory winter โ›„๐ŸŒจ๏ธโ˜ƒ๏ธ

Meet Terri

Hi Iโ€™m Terri ๐Ÿ˜Š I live with my husband Jonathan, our little girl Mia and fur baby Reggie in the Sandwell area. I have a National Diploma in Performing Arts which has likely reflected on my reputation for being a bit loopy!

I first fell in love with Baby Sensory when I attended Classes with my little one while on Maternity Leave. Mia and I absolutely LOVED the classes and was amazing to see how mesmerized and mentally stimulated she was every single week. Learning the baby sign with her (which wasnโ€™t as hard as I thought) really helped her communicate with me what she wanted/needed, which has made life so much easier, so these classes really educated me too! Not only was it amazing to see how great this class was for her brain development, but it was also great for me as a new Mom, to be able to get out the house and meet other new mums and dads, as most parents will agree, itโ€™s hard work getting out the house and socialising with others when you have to contemplate feeding, naps and the dread of a baby meltdowns in publicโ€ฆ..These opportunities to relax with your baby and have fun can really help a parent keep sane!

Experiencing the benefits that Baby Sensory bring to both Mommy/Daddy and Baby really created a passion in me for all things Sensory, so much so that I decided to ditch my 9-5 office job and run my own Baby Sensory Classes and Iโ€™ve never been happier! I have always loved children so to be able to use my love for children along with my skills of being an entertainer, Baby Sensory has really become a dream job for me.

I look forward to meeting you and your little one soon, and all the fun we will have together ๐Ÿ˜Š
