🎉 What a great way to kick off the new Toastmasters year!

On 1 August, several of our Nottingham Robin Hood Speakers officers headed to the District 71 – Division E Club Officer Training for a day packed with learning, fresh ideas, and plenty of laughs along the way.

It was brilliant to catch up with friends from other clubs, swap experiences, and come away feeling inspired for the year ahead. We can't wait to put some of those ideas into action at our club!

And to top it all off… 🏆 we're proud to have received the Distinguished Club award! A huge thank you to all our members who make Nottingham Robin Hood Speakers such a welcoming, supportive, and fun place to learn and grow.

Another wonderfully fun evening at Robin Hood Speakers Club! Our award winners last night were:

Suzanne Nash - Best Table Topics Speaker and Best Role Player
Giosue Bonsu - Best Speaker
John Cox - Best Evaluator

It was a special night for Giosue who won the best Speaker award for his first Toastmasters speech, the "icebreaker" speech, about his experience growing up with Italian, Ghanian and English influences.

Reflecting afterwards on giving a speech Giosue said:

"It was very daunting, thinking about what I was going to talk about. My icebreaker was interesting because sometimes I find it hard to talk about myself, so I really had to think critically about what I was going to say.

It was a good experience. I learned that I can do public speaking. It's a skill that I can build up. I did enjoy it.

It's nice to see how people resonated with the speech. The question in my icebreaker was really about introspectiveness and how, when you meet someone, you should look deeper than just what their appearance shows you."

We look forward to hearing many more speeches from Giosue!

🌹 Tralee was buzzing this weekend as Toastmasters from across Ireland, Scotland, and Northern England came together for the District 71 The Rose Conference 202 — and our Nottingham's Toastmasters Club: Robin Hood Speakers was right in the middle of it! 🎤✨

The conference was an incredible opportunity to:
✨ Hear from accomplished and motivating speakers
✨ Take part in practical and engaging workshops
✨ Share ideas and experiences with Toastmasters from across District 71
✨ Build new friendships and strengthen our network within the Toastmasters community

There’s something special about being surrounded by people who are all challenging themselves to grow — whether that’s in public speaking, leadership, confidence, or communication. The energy throughout the conference was genuinely inspiring.

Now… what new ideas, skills, and inspiration can we bring back to make our club even stronger? 🚀
