The club was very sorry to learn of the recent passing of one of the early pioneers of British karate Sensei Shiro Asano and send our condolences to his family, friends and students.. He arrived on these shores from his homeland of Japan in the late 1960s joining two other legendary karate ‘missionaries’ from the land of the rising sun, Sensei Hirokazu Kanazawa and Sensei Keinosuke Enoeda. He became the resident instructor of 'the Nottingham club' putting the city on the karate map and making it his home. He is pictured in those early days with a young Sensei Terry O'Neill teaching the art we love. May he rest in peace.

We were saddened to hear of the passing of Sensei Shiro Asano. Sensei Asano taught within the KUGB during its early years with Sensei Keinosuke Enoeda and played a valued role in helping shape the association.

Our thoughts are with his family, friends, and his many students. R.I.P.

🥋 CENTRAL REGION ALL GRADES COURSE & KATA SQUAD SELECTION 🥋

In just over two weeks, selection will take place for the Central Region Kata Squad under the watchful eye of Sensei Frank Brennan (8th Dan).

The Central Region Kata Squad has been running with immense success for decades. Last year it recorded its largest ever membership with 124 squad members.

Led by Sensei Frank Brennan, the squad offers outstanding training alongside like-minded karateka, with instruction of the highest calibre.
Please encourage students to attend the All Grades Course, and if eligible (see below), to try out for the squad.

🔴 Open to all KUGB members, 3rd Kyu and above, and aged 12+
🔴 Organised within the Central Region, but open to ALL KUGB members from ALL regions
🔴 Squad members must attend and successfully complete the selection session
