Oh no, there will be no work done before the school run today!
Luckily I managed to squeeze in a cup of tea before the power went off.
My signal here is patchy at best so if you’re trying to contact me, replies may be delayed.

Hope everyone had a wonderful half term.
Busy week this week with the final English GCSE exam of the year. I’ll have some goodbyes too. Always a bittersweet feeling to say goodbye to students and their families as they move onto their next exciting steps.
This does also mean I’ll have some spaces for new students. Get in touch to discuss your tuition requirements. Whether it’s improving confidence, exam technique or revision skills: I’ve got you!

Made a friend on my way to work this evening. Tried his best to distract me and make me late but I have Literature Paper 2 work to do. What a beauty!

It’s the final weekend before GCSE English starts on Monday. It’s been wonderful to see my students this week feeling ready and prepared.
If you’re doing some last-minute revision this weekend, keep it simple and focus on the things that will give you the biggest confidence boost:
Look back over key quotations
Re-read your class notes and past essays
Refresh yourself with chapter/act summaries
Practise planning a couple of answers rather than writing full essays
And most importantly… get plenty of rest before the big day
I’ve taken bookings for September already, but do still have some availability once exam season is over.
The photo is everything I’ve just taken out of my bag; it’s infinitely lighter now.

Proud friend alert!
In studying English, as well as in life, hard work pays off.
My friend, also handily named Emma, has worked tirelessly towards the publication of her first book. Not only has she written ‘Where is Pierre?’, but she has also illustrated it. What a talent!
Emma is a fantastic example of putting your mind to something, keeping going and focusing on your goal.
Emma has always been tenacious and goal oriented. From our days of a house share studying English at Loughborough University, teaching English in schools, in motherhood and now in post teaching careers, Emma continues to inspire me.

Lastly from Norway, we have an image from Carol Ann Duffy’s Before You Were Mine:
“Your polka-dot dress blows round your legs. Marilyn.”
Her father was born in Haugesund.

I laughed when we found this playground! I could almost hear Mr Birling in my head as soon as I laid eyes on it.
“…as if we were all mixed up together like bees in a hive - community and all that nonsense”
