⚽✨ Girls’ Football – ESFA Cup

A busy few days for our girls’ football teams, with both our U14s and U13s in ESFA Cup action.

Our U14s travelled to Sandringham School on Friday evening, where they came up against a strong and physical side. Despite the defeat, Bella scored our goal, and the team remained in great spirits throughout, showing fantastic resilience and sportsmanship.

Our U13s were back in action at home, producing a brilliant 4–2 victory over Sir John Lawes. Scarlett scored a fantastic hat-trick, with Abigail adding the fourth.

The U13s have certainly started this season as they finished the last, playing with enthusiasm and a real love of football.

Well done to both teams for representing Monk’s Walk so positively.

A number of our local colleges are holding open events this term, giving students and families the chance to explore courses, facilities and future pathways.

For students considering college as an option after Year 11, we would strongly encourage attending one of the earlier open events where possible. Applications are ideally made towards the end of this term or at the beginning of next term, so visiting early can help students make informed decisions about their next steps.

Discord is a hugely popular communication platform where young people can chat, play games and join communities built around shared interests.

This week’s guide explores some of the potential risks associated with the platform, including contact with strangers, inappropriate content, harassment, and the possibility of gaming and socialising becoming a distraction from everyday life.

The guide also offers practical advice for parents and carers including using Discord’s Family Centre, checking privacy settings, talking openly about suspicious behaviour and reviewing spending controls.

It also encourages families to agree clear expectations around screen time, helping young people enjoy the platform while making safer and more informed choices online.

🏃‍♀️🏃‍♂️ Primary Schools Cross Country at Monk’s Walk

Our School Sports Coordinators recently hosted a fantastic Primary Schools Cross Country event on the Monk’s Walk playing field, welcoming around 350 Year 5 students from our Partnership Primary Schools.

Students completed a course of just over a mile, with the top 12 boys and top 12 girls qualifying to represent the Monk’s Walk Partnership at the finals event at Stanborough Lakes in a few weeks’ time.

A huge thank you also goes to our Monk’s Walk student leaders, who played a key role in helping the event run so smoothly. They led warm-ups, signed in schools, acted as pace setters and offered plenty of encouragement throughout the races.

They were fantastic role models for the younger students and made a real difference to the experience of everyone involved.

Students are invited to create a cake with a European theme or bake something using a traditional European recipe.

It is a great opportunity to get creative, celebrate different cultures and languages, and earn points for your House at the same time.

Good luck to our Year 10 Silver Duke of Edinburgh’s Award students, who are heading off for a couple of days of training in preparation for their expedition later in the year.

The training will give students the chance to develop their navigation, teamwork, resilience and expedition skills, helping them feel confident and well prepared for the challenge ahead.

We hope they have a fantastic couple of days and make the most of the experience.

🏉 Rugby is back at Monk’s Walk! 🏉

We are excited to be building on the success of our school rugby programme and welcoming students to get involved this term!

There are some fantastic opportunities ahead, including fixtures against local schools, a Saracens Rugby Tournament, and we are also hoping to attend a Saracens home match later in the year! 🏆

Rugby is about so much more than what happens on the pitch. Our players are encouraged to demonstrate the core values of Teamwork, Respect, Enjoyment, Discipline and Sportsmanship. These values help our students develop confidence, resilience and leadership skills, while learning how to support and encourage those around them.

It is fantastic to see so many students getting involved, representing the school and developing a real passion for rugby. We are looking forward to an exciting season ahead! 💪🏉
