Today was planned as ‘holidays’ everyone talking about what they had done over the summer, and I showed photos of the beach I had been too, got out some shells and the new ones I’d picked up for them.
They had a great time sorting, counting and describing shells including a ‘unicorn shell’
When a child was sad because another had a special shell I used the chance to talk about emotions and using the mirror all were happy and laughing again. It’s so important to reassure them all emotions are all ok and normal to feel, dealing with them is hardest part.
I had planned a book about holidays but they wanted the go away bird! So parents I apologise again when they are all shouting go away! 🙈 just remind them she became the ‘you can stay’ bird!! 🤣

As many of you know I care for my beloved Grandad on Sundays, make him a roast dinner, clear up and have a chat. Dementia has changed him, he forgets words, mixes up memories, repeats things and even forgets people that don’t regularly visit, those he remembers he confuses how they are related to him. I’m his daughter in every way that matters, he was the father figure in my life, my personal taxi running me to nail appointments and waiting outside to run me home again!Driving me to Mark’s house and picking me up, my strength when I needed, my go to for any DIY or car problems, teaching me to drive, so many things he did for me without complaint, always telling me I was like his daughter.
Since my Nan passed he needs us all more. Dementia is terminal, there is no cure, some medication can help halt its progression but so much more study is needed. I watched my great grandmother (his mum) die with this awful condition so I’ve already seen it at all stages and it’s heartbreaking and scary for them and everyone that loves them.
