Does anyone know who this cat belongs to? He is around the Andrewsfield/Rivenhall End area in Panshanger. He is very thin and hungry. Yesterday he was eating a dead pigeon that was a bit rancid. He tries to visit two or three houses in the area and scavenges for food. I don't want to feed him in case he is someone's but he has just tried to break through the cat flap again to get to food. I have seen him in the middle of the night and early in the morning. He is friendly but timid and won't come near me. Please let us get him sorted out before the weather turns. First week of the new term and we introduced/explored the wonderfully messy world of charcoal in various forms - pencils, sticks and compressed. We then combined this with spheres, progressed to apples with a little stop on the way to construct a Celtic symbol which required a mathematics qualification to cope with the twists and turns but was very satisfying and then to our personal projects/images.

Yesterday we had a summer break class using some new ingredients - gold leaf, gold watercolour, tissue paper and lint and obviously our watercolours.
The choice of subject was either a lion or an elephant both of which are enhanced with various textures.
The warm up was echinacea flowers practising with textures. Have a browse through our jungle.

This is a wonderful part of WG City green belt land with biodiversity, safe places for wildlife and the lungs that help us humans breathe fresh air. Local government want to build on this under the premise that there will be a swimming pool/leisure centre built for all to use. The golf club is already there for all to use - irrespective of income or status as it is a 'municipal' course. There are also the facilities for art classes, yoga classes, walking football. People get married there and celebrate significant milestones in their lives.
What they have neglected to make people aware of is that in order to 'gain' the leisure centre 500 homes will be built turning a wonderful area into a building site. This will also affect the River Mimram one of the few chalk streams in the world, The Lagoon and there is also a Nature Reserve at the bottom of the hill.
Please support us as the council have announced that they will not accept the results of a petition which currently has 4,200 signatures.

For our first class following the death of David Hockney we took a series of his images as our inspiration. Some of them well known from his home area of North Yorkshire, a coastal path one and also South of France. I am sure you agree that we did him proud.

Some Images from Collage Week. As a warm-up we used a mixture of old book pages (beyond redemption pages and I am sure Sir Terry Pratchett would have approved) and watercolour paints/marker pens to create basic cats. For our main picture we again used everything from printed floral papers, watercolours, kitchen towel, wax crayons and if I had a spanner the kitchen sink may have featured.

The subject for our oil pastel week was amphibians - ironicreally as that was the week I had a cold and a Croaky Throat. We started with a humble lemon and then moved on to frogs of varying sizes and colours.

Conte Crayons were our weapons of choice in this particular week which we combined with impressionist charcoal works and with three simple colours achieved some amazing works of art.
