Although I have been teaching at university for over sixteen years, my initial degree was in Linguistics, which I undertook in Bangor, Gwynedd. I then retrained and qualified as a Registered Veterinary Nurse and after eleven years in clinical practice, I kickstarted my educational career at the Royal Veterinary College in London where I spent twelve happy years teaching, supervising and examining
veterinary medicine, veterinary nursing and biosciences students in veterinary clinical skills, rabbit nursing and final year research projects. Whilst at the RVC I also obtained my teaching qualifications, my Masters degree in Veterinary Education and my Fellowship of the Higher Education Academy (FHEA) status. Latterly I joined the joint partnership veterinary nursing degree programme between Middlesex University and the College of Animal Welfare, where I primarily taught final year elective modules and Top Up degree students on modules such as Work-Based project, Veterinary Education and Professional Development, Evidence-Based Veterinary Nursing and Nursing Exotics and Wildlife. At both universities, I was a dissertation and final year research supervisor, and spent a lot of time tutoring students on academic writing skills. Earlier in 2025, I left academia and now work as a freelance academic coach, writer and internal quality assessor for the Veterinary Management Group. I have also written and will be shortly launching a rabbit health awareness course for rabbit owners, as domestic and clinical care of rabbits is, and will always be, an absolute passion of mine. I have completed three Advanced Veterinary Nursing certificates in avian, herpetology and small mammal medicine too so if you have any questions about those, I am more than happy to chat! In my non-formal work capacity, I am a member of the Ethics Review Panel for the Royal College of Veterinary Surgeons, the Veterinary Liaison officer for the Bedlington Terrier Rescue Group and I am currently collaborating with a veterinary nursing colleague on a book aimed at teenagers who would like to work with animals but via a non-veterinary pathway.
