Brooke captains England to victory in Poland – Around Wellington Brooke captains England to victory in Poland 27 March 2022 by Ken Bird Congratulations to Wellington footballer Brooke Aspin who captained England Under 17s as they beat Poland 1-0 at the European Championship in Krakow this afternoon. Brooke was also skipper when England narrowly lost their opening...
We have moved to reporting to parents twice a year in line with The Castle School as our Trust secondary partner. One report includes teacher comments in the Spring Term and one with Tutor comments in the Summer Term. The timings of these reports need to be during the Spring and Summer term to allow enough time for students to make progress and for teachers to comment on this progress. This was in response to parent and staff feedback regarding the Autumn Term reports (the question being how staff could make an accurate assessment of progress over such a short period from September!)
This unfortunately does mean that the reports are published to parents close to Parents’ Evenings for some Year Groups (as the Parents’ Evenings are spread throughout the academic year).
It is also a point to note that unfortunately the Year 8 reports have been delayed this year because of high levels of staff absence due to Covid.
We appreciate parents’ feedback and would welcome your thoughts on the timings of student academic reports, the timing and the format of Parents’ Evenings (face to face or phone call) for the next academic year. Please do email any feedback to (school email)
Thank you, Mr Dudley
A reminder of tomorrow's trip to the National Apprenticeships Show for those going from Year 10!

A fantastic performance and attitude for our year 8 handballers at a really strong event consisting of the strongest handball schools from all over the South West. Finishing runners up means we will now go onto the Southern Finals in May. A huge achievement from all the boys who did Mr C and the school very proud!
Set in deepest Somerset during the 17th century, Fortune Sharpe is not your average girl.
Strongwitted and determined, she sets about making a boat with her brother Gem. It might seem like something fun to do, but Fortune has to leave her home in a hurry then she is spotted rowing the boat on the Sabbath.
Fortune is sent off to find work disguised as a boy, but luckily, she doesn’t have to look far before she discovers that Barrow Hill, the local manor house, has an opportunity for her. Yet Fortune slowly realises that this manor house holds many secrets within its walls. When the other children of the house discover she’s not who they thought she was, suspicions are raised. And with King James’ witchfinders roaming the West Country, will Fortune – a girl in the wrong place at the wrong time – escape unscathed?
This is another glorious example of historical fiction from Emma Carroll: a feisty, female-led adventure that is based on real-life events. It creates a curiosity for history – for the 17th century, the witch trials and the real history of Somerset (the floods of 1607, now considered to have been a tsunami by some), while encouraging girls to be resilient and have faith in themselves.
Hope those students heading to the Eden Project tomorrow are feeling excited!
Year 11s! Here are some key dates for between now and results day in August!
Please make sure you have received and read all the information in the "Year 11 End of Year Information" booklet sent out last week.
Once again we’ve had a busy week with a focus on the implementation of our curriculum in lessons, so that students know and remember more, as well as those enrichment activities and wider experiences that make such a difference to our students’ lives. This week we’ve had a range of sports fixtures, our Year 10 Mock Interview Day, a Year 2 Primary Sports Festival (supported by our Sports Leaders), Year 8 Parents’ Evening, and a visit to the Mendip Outdoor Centre as part of the Insight into Apprenticeships programme for a range of students in Year 9.
This is all despite the ongoing impact of Covid, which has particularly impacted staffing over the last 2 weeks, with over 15% staff absence. I am so very grateful to our staff who have covered and supported their colleagues to ensure that all Year Groups have been able to remain in school in normal timetabled lessons, as well as being able to experience a wide range of enrichment activities.
I hope you had a lovely weekend and were able to enjoy the sunshine. Take care, Mrs Matthews

School Formula 1 Championship Race Recap 🏎️
A good start at the Circuit of the Americas for Miles put him into the lead early, but this started on a downward spiral as Hutchinson took over the lead when Miles DNF'd.
An earlier pit stop meant Pickard could extend his stint as Miles ran out of fuel and Vinall retired due to engine failure. Pickard managed to pit early and then maintain the lead with the overcut as he kept his cool as Hutchinson closed in on him. This lead to Pickard taking his first win by 1.81 seconds from Hutchinson, disrupting her winning streak, and Witton came home 3rd for his first podium finish.
Next Race: Azerbaijan Grand Prix - 06/04/2022
