We’re delighted to see Wellington School featured in the latest issue of Exeter Living, where our Head of Sixth Form, Lucy MacAlister, takes part in the magazine’s ‘Meet the Teacher’ feature.

Lucy speaks about the high expectations we have for pupils at Wellington, the strength of our teaching and the opportunities that extend well beyond the classroom.

Academic excellence is supported by expert subject knowledge, strong pastoral care and a clear focus on each pupil’s future. Lucy also reflects on the importance of knowing pupils well and creating a Sixth Form culture where ambition is encouraged and individual potential is taken seriously.

We’re very proud to have Lucy leading our Sixth Form, and pleased to see her sharing a little of what makes life at Wellington so special.

Following an audition earlier this year, Robert has just completed a week-long National Youth Music Theatre (NYMT) skills workshop at ArtsEd in London.

As one of the youngest taking part, he spent the week developing his performance skills and meeting new friends. It's great to see Robert really making the most of this fantastic opportunity and challenging himself to take his talents even further.

Next up are the winter auditions, and we’re looking forward to seeing where his 2027 NYMT adventure takes him. Well done, Robert!

A huge congratulations to Nerys, Year 11, who has been selected to represent Wales at the 2026 School Games.

Nerys will be heading to Loughborough next week as part of the Wales Emerging Girls squad, competing against England, Scotland and Ulster across four days of high-performance hockey.

It’s a fantastic achievement and an exciting opportunity to compete alongside some of the best young players from across the home nations.

A passionate historian, Gus has achieved outstanding results of A*AB at A Level, alongside an A* in his EPQ, "The Impact of British Colonialism on Modern African Institutions."

Having joined Wellington in Year 7, Gus has fully embraced school life, combining academic excellence with a wide range of co-curricular activities. Alongside his studies, he has represented the School on the rugby field and taken to the stage in school productions, making a valued contribution to the Wellington community.

We are delighted that Gus has secured a place at the University of Bristol, where he will continue to pursue his passion for History.

What does a foggy drive across the Blackdown Hills have to do with the start of a new school year? More than you might actually think...

In his latest blog, our Head, Dr Alex Battison, reflects on that familiar mix of excitement and uncertainty that comes with a new beginning, particularly for young people joining a new school this September.

It’s a lovely reminder that confidence doesn’t come from having everything mapped out. Instead, it comes from feeling supported, knowing you belong somewhere and having people around you who will help you find your way, even in those foggy moments.

Our U16 and U18 boys’ rugby teams have been down in Penryn for their pre-season camp, preparing for the season ahead.

There’s been plenty of quality training along with time on the beach tackling the dunes, coasteering, good food and lots of fun along the way.

A huge thank you to our friends in Penryn for looking after the boys so well. We’re looking forward to seeing them back on the pitch this term!

As we continue to congratualate our A Level and GCSE students, we'd like to celebrate Ella, who achieved excellent results in her A Levels, securing a B in English Literature, a B in Art, and a Distinction in BTEC Business.

Throughout her time in the Sixth Form, Ella has demonstrated the value of aligning her studies with her strengths, interests, and future ambitions. She has embraced a range of opportunities, earning both the Albert Goodman Leadership Prize during National Apprenticeship Week and the BTEC Business Prize at the 2026 Prizegiving.

Joining Wellington for the Sixth Form, Ella has made a hugely positive contribution to school life and has been a wonderful member of the community. We are delighted that she will be continuing her creative journey by studying Interior Design at Bath Spa University.

We congratulate Ella on her achievements and wish her every success in the exciting next stage of her education and career.

We had a brilliant day celebrating with our Year 11s last Thursday.

Our GCSE students have achieved an exceptional set of results, and we’re delighted to share some of the highlights from Results Day.

From outstanding grades across the board to individual successes, there was so much to celebrate and a wonderful sense of pride as students came together with parents and teachers to mark everything they have achieved.

Congratulations, Year 11. We are incredibly proud of you and can’t wait to see what comes next.

Excellence is only the beginning.

Today we’re celebrating our Year 11 students and another fantastic set of GCSE results.

There really is plenty to be proud of, with more than a quarter of all grades awarded at 9-8 and 42% at 9-7, but what makes these results so special are the stories behind them. There has been such a high level of hard work and determination shown by this year group over the last two years, it's been remarkable.

Each student’s journey has been different, and today is a chance to recognise every achievement along the way. Congratulations, Year 11. We are so proud of all you have achieved and look forward to seeing where your next chapter takes you.

Our Head, Dr Alex Battison said: ‘off the back of another impressive set of A Level, BTEC and EPQ results, these incredible Year 11 students have given themselves, and the whole community another reason to be incredibly proud. We are grateful for the legacy our young people continue to build here: one where it is cool to learn, be kind and dream big; and where self-esteem and purpose is built through a superb array of opportunities, inspirational staff and dedicated parental support. Excellence is only the beginning at Wellington School and we look forward to the record numbers of over 90 students joining our flourishing Sixth Form in Lower Sixth, this September.'
