We have a fantastic and varied programme lined up for our Spring Concert & Choral Collective this Monday 4 March at 7pm in Great Hall. Featuring some great orchestral and ensemble numbers by Mozart, Queen, Handel and Ellington and an eclectic mix of pop by several of our talented singing groups, most of whom have created their own arrangements. There will be music for everyone to enjoy and you are all very welcome. No charge for entry.
Outreach event with Prep Schools
We have another busy musical term ahead of us and hope to welcome you to some of our varied events; from Teatime and Faculty Concerts in Small Hall to our Spring Concert on Monday 4 March with a sprinkling of wonderful Choral music inbetween by our glorious Chapel Choir. Please take a look at the attached diary, there is something for everyone to enjoy.
Our Autumn Concert, planned for this Wednesday 14th, has been postponed to Wednesday 12th December.
However, if you were looking forward to an autumnal winter interlude, all is not lost. You are all warmly invited to Open Rehearsals this Wednesday instead, in Great Hall between 4-6pm involving Concert Band, String Orchestra and Senior Orchestra:
4.00-4.45: Senior Concert Band
4.50-5.10: String Orchestra
5.15-6.00: Symphony Orchestra, also featuring Harmonix
This opportunity affords an exciting insight into the rehearsal process, demonstrating how a performance is pieced. The music being rehearsed will range from the powerful 1812 Overture by Tchaikovsky, through an exuberant suite of Danny Elfman's film music, via Walton's stirring Coronation March Crown Imperial and Lana Del Rey's Young and Beautiful, sung by Harmonix and accompanied by full orchestra!
Everyone is very welcome to drop in whenever suits, it will be an informal, come-and-go-as-you-please occasion.
This evening.....Everyone very welcome.
We have hit the ground running this term, straight into our production of Andrew Lloyd Webber's 'School of Rock', which is sounding fantastic. The show runs Wednesday,Thursday and Friday nights (27th - 29th Sep) but if you haven't already got a ticket you're probably out of luck as we believe they're all sold out.
However, we have several other musical interludes and events we hope you will come and enjoy this term; have a look at our Diary here.
Not to be missed will be our Autumn concert on Wed 14th November at 7pm and around that several more intimate events like Teatime concerts (refreshments served!), Music-4-Lunch in Chapel at lunchtime, which is always a welcome treat during the busy day, and our Brass and Woodwind Faculty concerts in November.

Why classical musicians are bracing for the worst after Brexit — The Independent The composer Howard Goodall was passing through a London airport in March en route to a conducting gig in Houston. Idling at the currency exchange desk, he got into conversation with an employee about whether Brexit would be good for his industry. When Goodall said no, and suggested the consequences...
CALLING ALL SINGERS...Tuesday 27 June
COME & SING MUSIC FOR STAGE AND SCREEN FROM SCRATCH with the Chapel Choir, under the direction of Andrew Trewhella.
Come along and learn to sing two choral masterpieces in just an hour! The gorgeous Polovtsian Dances from Alexander Borodin’s opera Prince Igor are at once sumptuously exotic, splendidly earthy and passionately fiery. Equally elemental is John Williams’ thrilling Duel of the Fates from Star Wars: The Phantom Menace – like all the Star Wars prequels it’s a disappointing film, but the music, as always with John Williams, is sensational!
Working with the school's acclaimed chapel choir, this specially assembled scratch chorus will then perform the two pieces in our 'Two Piano Malarkey' concert later the same day, accompanied by two fabulous Steinway grand pianos and a battery of dramatic and colourful percussion! All pupils, staff, parents and friends are encouraged to come and join the fun.
Music is provided on arrival and there is just one rehearsal, from 4.00-5.00 on the day of the concert in Great Hall - Tuesday 26 June. The concert then follows at 7pm in Great Hall. It would be an advantage to do a little homework in advance, to save time in rehearsal, so please Youtube the pieces and have a good listen before the day. There is no charge for this experience - just come along and enjoy it - the more singers, the more thrilling the sound!
We look forward to welcoming as many as possible of you on Tuesday 26 June.

ALL THE KING'S MEN
We were so disappointed this concert & associated workshops had to be cancelled on Sunday.
The good news is that we have a new date - SUNDAY 13 MAY - all arrangements and timings staying the same.
If you already have tickets, these will still be valid. If the date is no longer convenient and you would like to apply for a refund, you will be be given the opportunity to do so via an email from the Box Office.
We will let you know if any returns become available.
Tickets for All the King’s Men on 4 March have now all sold out! Please do not show up on the night without a ticket, numbers are strictly limited and we would hate to have to turn you away....
We are so excited to welcome this award-winning a ca****la group, featuring our very own Will Hester (2015). After countless sensational international tours, sell-out appearances at the Edinburgh Fringe Festival and several albums under their belts, All the King's Men will also be remembered for reaching the final of the BBC's 'Pitch Battle' last year.
This multi-award winning group have quickly conquered the UK a ca****la scene with their tight vocal harmonies and original arrangements. A diverse selection of music and entertaining choreography, seasoned with humour and mischief, creates a regal performance fit for a king!
Tickets are on sale now here:
https://www.trybooking.co.uk/DVD
