Between September 2014 and 2016 the Department for Education has made funding available to provide specialist individual support to parent/carers and young people who are involved in an Education, Health and Care(EHC) Needs Assessment and the process of developing and EHC plan
Who will recieve help? Parent/carers of children being assessed for an Education, Health and Care Plan(EHCP)
Parent/Carers of children with a statement transfering to an EHCP
Young people with a Learning Disability Assessment(139a) transfering to an EHCP
What support will you receive? A named contact throughout the assessment and planning process
Support to help you understand the Local offer and provide information about personal budgets
Practical support regarding the information required for the EHCP
Help to ensure your views are reflected in the EHCP
Support to complete a one page profile
Signposting to Information, advice and support services across education, health and social care

To complete our World Autism Awareness Week we held a coffee morning , we invited service users, and professionals from all around Telford & Wrekin . We launched our video and listened to Alex Lowery - Public speaker on his Life with Autism. The feedback from the morning was - Fantastic, very enlightning, well done on such a brilliant service. One person even shed tears watching the video as many heartfelt words were spoken. Lets continue this journey and help service users reach their goals and ambitions in life.
Telford & Wrekin SEND team have been working on a new SEND strategy, this is to help them achieve their goals. It recognises that they will need to collaborate and work with schools, colleges and settings in the maintained and non-maintained sectors, health and social care, including adult services and the voluntary sector. Partnership will be key.

We have been working closely with Telford & Wrekin council and PODS on the Education, Health, Care Needs Assessment form (EHCNA) that is available for parent's to complete when they wish to request an assessment.

Improvements to the layout, search function and accessibility will help families and professionals get the information they seek quicker and easier.
The Local Offer provides information on what services you can expect from local agencies including education, health, social care and leisure for disabled Children and young people including those with additional needs, a statement and Education, Health and Care Plan.

Government have today published the second release of their SEN Data and Analysis document and a new blog from Edward Timpson MP and Jane Ellison MP on the SEND reforms.
Regarding Independent Support, Edward Timpson MP has said:
“Our network of Independent Supporters, into which we are investing £45 million between 2014 and 2017, are proving to be a catalyst for this change – they are helping embed the reforms, creating positive, powerful relationships with families, like you, who are accessing support. It’s encouraging to see the impact these individuals are having on children and young people with SEND the very people who are at the heart of our work. The job is not yet done – but there are clear signs that we are on track. We know what we have to do to keep things moving forward.”
