Health and Safety Executive is increasing inspections targeting silica dust exposure across Great Britain.

Silica dust is created during common construction tasks such as cutting, drilling and grinding materials like concrete, brick and stone. Without the right control measures, breathing in this fine dust can lead to serious, life-changing health conditions.

The HSE is reminding employers that controlling dust isn't optional. Businesses should ensure they have appropriate control measures in place, use suitable respiratory protective equipment (RPE) and provide workers with the training they need to stay safe.

Whether you're a site manager, supervisor or operative, understanding the risks is key to protecting yourself and those around you.

🤱 It's World Breastfeeding Week – supporting parents doesn't stop when maternity leave ends.

Returning to work while continuing to breastfeed can be a big adjustment, but with the right support from employers, it doesn't have to mean the end of a breastfeeding journey.

Employers can make a real difference by providing a private, clean space for expressing milk, considering flexible breaks where appropriate, and ensuring suitable workplace risk assessments are carried out for breastfeeding employees.

Creating an inclusive, supportive workplace isn't just about meeting legal responsibilities -it's about helping employees feel valued, improving wellbeing and retaining experienced members of your team.

If you're an employer or employee looking for practical advice, the NHS offers helpful guidance on returning to work while breastfeeding:
