📚✨ Introducing the Oakway Lending Library! ✨📚

We're excited to launch our new Oakway Lending Library, located in Main Reception!

The Lending Library is a place where children can:
📖 Borrow a book
📚 Donate a book
🌟 Discover a new favourite story
❤️ Share their love of reading with others

Our Lending Library is inspired by our Oakway PRIDE values:
🟥 Passion – Share your love of reading
🟦 Responsibility – Care for books and return them for others to enjoy
🟩 Independence – Choose books that interest you
🟪 Determination – Challenge yourself with new authors and genres
🟧 Enjoyment – Have fun reading!

If you have any children's books at home that are in good condition and suitable for a primary-aged audience, we'd love for you to donate them to help our Lending Library grow.

⚠️ Please note: The Lending Library is separate from our school library. School library books, Reading Spine books, Phonics books and Accelerated Reader (AR) books should not be placed on the Lending Library shelves.

Together, let's keep great books circulating throughout our Oakway community!

🌟 Sports Morning at Oakway Academy – Join the Fun! 🌟

We’re excited to welcome everyone to our upcoming Sports Morning events! 🏃‍♂️🎉

📅 Schedule:
Mon 13th – EY & Nursery (9:15–11:15)
Tues 14th – Years 1 & 2 (9:15–11:15)
Weds 15th – Years 3 & 4 (9:15–11:15)
Thurs 16th – Years 5 & 6 (9.15 - 12:00)

It’s set to be a fantastic week full of energy, teamwork, and big smiles 😄 We can’t wait to see our pupils giving it their all and cheering each other on!

Parents and carers are warmly invited to come along and support. Please see poster for further details.

We currently have a large number of library books that are showing as missing!
Please could all families have a quick check at home, in book bags, bedrooms, under beds, and on bookshelves for any school library books.
📖 If you find any, please return them to school as soon as possible so they can be enjoyed by other children.
❓Not sure which books your child has borrowed? Please speak to your child’s class teacher and we’ll be happy to help.

Get ready to dance! Our school disco is happening at Oakway Academy on 7th July, and we can’t wait to see everyone there.

🕓 Session Times:
4:00–5:00pm – Early Years, Year 1 & Year 2
5:30–6:30pm – Year 3, Year 4 & Year 5.

🎟 Tickets: £2.00 each
💳 Pay via ParentMail or through the school office
🗓 Deadline for payment: 30th June

🌟 Celebrating Our Young Mathematicians! 🌟

Children in Years 3 and 4 took part in the First Maths Challenge this week, tackling a series of very tricky maths questions with determination and enthusiasm.

They truly demonstrated all of our PRIDE values throughout, particularly Determination & Enjoyment!💜🧡

👏 Well done to every single one of them – we are incredibly proud. It’s clear we have some very talented mathematicians at our academy 🙂

Healthy eating 🍅 🧅 🧀 🌽
Year 2 finished their Healthy Food unit by learning about foods that boost our energy, mood, and future health.
The children worked wonderfully together to chop, grate, and prepare their own quesadillas using tomatoes, cheese, spring onions, sweetcorn and herbs. Everyone had a taste—and they all agreed they were delicious! 😋

Over the last two weeks, Year 1 have been learning about Inuksuks. They are man made landmarks, in the shape of humans. We formed our own pebbles out of clay and when they were dry, we worked in teams to build our own Inuksuk! 🗿🧱

🎨 4A have been exploring colour in art tower through last to weeks! 🌈

The children experimented with mixing paint colours to create a wide range of shades and tones, developing their understanding of how primary colours can be combined to make new colours. They also investigated ombré effects, carefully blending colours to create smooth transitions from light to dark.

Using oil pastels, oil paints and watercolours, the class demonstrated fantastic creativity and perseverance while trying different techniques and effects. The results were vibrant, expressive and full of imagination! 🎨
