Our friends at Poetry on Loan have just announced the details of this year’s poetry competition. This year’s theme is ‘Strangers and Friends’ and the competition is free to enter.
As ever there are two categories – one for 11-18-year olds and another for over 18s. the prize for the adults is a paid performance in any West Midlands Library, and the 11-18 category it is a Book Token. A new category has been added this year – a prize for an unpublished poet who has never before won a poetry prize. The closing date is 1st September 2022, so you have plenty of time to get writing!

This week marks the beginning of Mental Health Awareness Week with a focus on helping ease loneliness. In honour of this, beginning this week and lasting throughout the exam season the Learning Hub will have a “drop in zone” available to you before and after school, as well as at break and lunch time.

Whether you need five minutes to gather your thoughts; space to journal; or someone to talk to, the Learning Hub team will be here to facilitate.

Whatever you’re dealing with, don’t feel you need to deal with it alone.

YEAR 7 KENILWORTH CASTLE TRIP

Yesterday, Population 2 Year 7 students visited Kenilworth Castle as part of their history studies on Norman Castles. 🏰

We spent the day exploring the grounds and ruins in the sunshine and learnt all about the history of the castle. We visited the Leicester Gatehouse, which was built in 1571 by Robert Dudley, Earl of Leicester in 1571 as part of his grand plan to woo Queen Elizabeth I. We climbed the tallest towers and finished the day by walking around the beautiful gardens. 🌼

All students truly enjoyed their visit. Miss Hindle would like to take this opportunity to say "Well done to all our students who took part in the trip, it was a great day for all”.

🤩🥳⭐️Come and join us for family fun, creative workshops, music, sports activities, rides, stalls, food and drink in town centres and parks throughout May, June and July. 🤩🥳⭐️

The first festival kicks off on Saturday 14 May at Oldbury Town Centre from 10am.

It is free to attend between 10am and 4pm, where there will be fun activities for children and families. The evening event in Barnford Park is ticketed and starts from 4pm to 9pm with live music, fire eaters, stilt walkers, fair rides and much more.

To purchase tickets for the evening event, please book online on the Shine A Light website - tickets are £2.50 (£3 on the door) for adults £1.50 (£2 on the door) for children.
