With much reduced numbers we combined our junior and senior gradings, with everyone grading in the morning.
Small numbers, but large performances !
Highest marks of the grading was achieved by Amira Stallion who successfully attempted Brown Tabs grading. Amira trains with GM Ian at our Watton venue on Wednesday and Friday nights.

Students were reminded by the GM that cross-training and multiple evenings per week are needed to maximise potential; and grade regularly for the more senior grades.

Huge Thanks, as always to our fantastic Senior grades, Instructors, Masters and Grandmaster who volunteer to help club members on a precious Saturday :-

General attendance / set up - Stephen Pickard
Equipment sales/ Catering - Teresa Soame
Self Defence Room officials/ training 'partners' - Lilly Rogers, Samuel Merritt
Grading Callers - James Howarth, Master Michelle Titmarsh
Grading Examiners - Jodie Hughes, Master Lynne Robb, Master Dave Robb
Grading paperwork/Administration/ Photographer/Chief Examiner - GM Ian Soame

Our Third grading of the year was a cosy one, with a lot of our students choosing to delay their grading until next time.
Quality rather than quantity was the name of the game, with candidates dealing with the heat as well as the pressure of the grading itself.
First up was our Red and Orange belt candidates. These youngsters put in a brave performance in the formal environment of a SMAGB grading and emerged sucessful!

What a weekend!

Following a fantastic self defence seminar hosted by Grandmaster Freddy Kleinschwaerzer on Saturday, SMAGB held its annual Black Belt grading at Sprowston Manor on Sunday.
The weather was hot outside, but the intensity in the grading room was boiling!
The candidates have been working towards their respective gradings for years, and over the last year have benefitted from special training sessions, mock exams and numerous seminars. They were prepared.
Of those who participated on the Sunday, all were succesful :-

1st Dan

Monica Becker
Rachel Hunter
Riley Nichols
Rory Bolton
Millie Hunter
Amelia Charlton
Lilly Rogers

4th Dan

Mia Wood

5th Dan Master Grade

Brian Hunter

A first for SMAGB, with 3 generations of the Hunter family attempting their respective Dan grades!

Following the Grading, the club held its famous (infamous?) Gala meal, with the occasion being shared with family and friends. Entertainment was provided by Connor with his unique quiz, followed by very special presentations and initiations for Brian Hunter as he joins the Master grades present.

All in all a wonderful weekend, made even more special by the fantastic volunteers - whether that be self defence partners ( Thank you Dina, Bella and Samuel), Flagbearers (Thank you Jodie and Bella) and Brian's applied pattern attackers ( thank you ' the a-team' - Sarah, Howie, Pedro and Connor). As always this could not have happened without the awesome support of family and friends during the lead-in to the grading, where the Black Belt grading becomes all encompassing.

Alongside GM Freddy, Masters Dave, Lynne and Chris were in attendance whilst GM Ian marked the performances. The masters were very pleased with the results, with even higher marks being scored than the succesful mock grading a few weeks ago ! - which goes to show the occasion uplifted everyone ! - a huge well done!

Yesterday saw this year’s black belt candidates complete their mock grading in preparation for the black belt grading at the end of the month. The candidates performed the black belt syllabus in front of four Masters. All candidates performed extremely well and are ready to do it all again in front of two Grandmasters.
Well done everyone, you have done yourselves and Saracen Martial Arts proud!

Senior grade assessments in the afternoon, and unusually, we had more senior grades grading than Juniors in the morning. No doubt normal 'service will be resumed' in the July Grading!

The afternoon grading candidates did not disappoint with some fantastic Taekwondo displayed.

Club Grading, Green tabs and Green belt grading (unusually, not Yellow belt grading candidates)

Again a small grading and one we had to bring in suitably sized partners for self defence and sparring for the lone adult. Fortunately SMAGB is not short of volunteers!

Second Grading of the year, was smaller that expected, however the enthusiasm and skill levels were not diminished!

As usual, the day started off with our 'peewees', the Red and Orange belt gradings. Only three candidates, but they were very brave, being outnumbered by the grading officials, at least two to one!

April Pre-grade yesterday.

Loads of happy faces and hard work being put in. Very much 'work in progress' with some time now to work on those improvements for the ongoing grading!

As always huge thanks to the masters, instructors and assistant Instructors who volunteered on their precious Saturday morning :-

Stephen Pickard , Dina Morais de Sousa, Sarah Cook, James Howarth, Samuel Merritt, Master Lynne Robb and Master Dave Robb

Well done also to those who attended, but aren't grading this time. A very clever move! Highly recommended to all students with the great Instructor to Student ratio.

Looking forward to the grading in a few weeks!
