Match report: Dearne Valley College vs Askham Bryan
Dearne Valley College 3 v 2 Askham Bryan
Going into the second fixture of the season, although first away fixture Dearne have made a few tweaks to the starting lineup. In tough conditions from the pitch due to the weather it started off with both teams battling in each half to settle on the ball. For the first 20 minutes Dearne settled quite well on the ball, when a chance broke through with a pass from JL in the middle of the park to DH on the left hand side, who went on to play BF through on goal but denied by the keeper. Askham Bryan pushed on into the first half where they were denied a couple of chances, based on the performance of our solid back four and keeper. Drawing towards the end of the first half KM looked up from goal and picked out BF who skimmed through Askham Bryans center halves and landed the ball into the back of the net. Askham Bryan battled for an equalizer before half time and was successful in this, from a run from the left hand side, crossed into the box for a stumbling equalizer goal. Dearne was composed moving into the second half with a tremendous battle made from QB, JL and NM in the middle of the park, where they were at some points out numbered but continued to provide great coverage of the mid-field whilst supporting the back four. An attack down the right hand side saw a cross into Dearnes box where an offside player headed the ball into the back of the net, unfortunately a decision made by the linesman who called offside was overruled by the referee. Dearne started to become slightly agitated by the decision made from the referee, but continued to battle on for an equalizer before full time. With a combined tackle made from JL and JC in the middle of the park, QB picked up the ball and played a through ball onto BF who went on to drive through Askham Bryans defense to deposit another goal into the back of the net. Sadly, with the linesman flag down the referee overruled the decision and called offside. Frustration fueling the Dearne side, allowed them to continue fighting back for a equalizer which was awarded to them by WA passing the ball to DH who made a quick one two with BF who dribbled through the back four for a chance on goal which was rebounded off the keeper, QB who positioned himself perfectly quickly sunk the ball into the back of the net. With full time slowly creeping both teams were battling on for a last minute goal, when a quick ball was played from KW into the middle of the park where BF picked it up and ran towards goal, where he was taken down by a Askham Bryan defender. The whistle was blown for a penalty, which led to a nail biting moment with 5 minutes left of the game. BF stepped up to the ball, looked up and drove the ball into the back of the net with keeper diving but within no reach of saving the ball. With the final whistle blowing for full time, Dearne was awarded the winning title.

DVC 3 v 2 NCB Match Report
Within the first 10 minutes DVC looked quiet unsettled on the ball, until coming into the 20th minutes where we started to settle and play some decent football especially within midfield and the back four they were compose and content with the standard of football. It was battle in areas which demonstrated an outstanding level of passion, ability and determination especially the back four and midfield. Later on into the game our Striker Blake Freeman found the opportunity from a long ball from our keeper (Gorg) to power through the back four and drop it into the back of the net making it 1-0. Moments after DVC made a unfortunate mistake which cost us to be level leading into the second half, however credit to the back four through the 1st half for being phenomenal. With a slight change for DVCs formation, we saw a utter battle from both sides which lead to some confrontational decisions. For most of the second half the team battle whole heartedly against a opponent who was seeking another goal, within this they gain a reward by a scrappy corner which lead to the ball crossing the line making us 2-1 with 20 minutes to go. Through this period multiple sub changes were made from injuries to tiredness, to try and get one last push for a draw. With the last 10 minutes dawning DVC’s football academy delivered an outstanding performance of resilience and passion which put the opponent on the back foot with two tremendous goals again from our strike Blake Freeman.
