We have been working incredibly hard strengthening their SPAG skills and developing verbal reasoning techniques in preparation for the 11+ exam 📚

In maths, we focused on building confidence when tackling word problems, helping students break questions down step-by-step and choose the correct operations.

In our latest tutoring session, we worked on building confidence in spelling and grammar through a variety of engaging activities.

📝 Dictation practice
Students completed a dictation activity focusing on tricky ‘ie’ and ‘ei’ spellings, helping them recognise patterns and improve spelling accuracy.

📚 Grammar focus
We explored modal verbs, negative modal forms, and adverbs of possibility, developing a deeper understanding of how they are used in sentences.

✏️ Practice activity
Students then practised switching between modal verbs, their negative forms, and contractions, strengthening both their grammar knowledge and writing skills.

✨ This week’s session focus ✨

We spent time consolidating learning from the last few weeks and building confidence across key areas 📚

🔢 Maths
We explored shapes and their properties by matching shapes to their correct names and identifying how many sides each shape has.

✏️ English
We revisited the meaning of nouns, verbs and adjectives and developed this further by looking at adverbs and how to use all of these effectively and appropriately in sentences.

Lots of great discussion, hands-on learning and growing confidence all round 💛
