One of the best parts of teaching is seeing children grow in confidence, especially when a topic they once found difficult starts to make sense.
Algebra used to feel scary for some of my pupils, until we worked through it step by step using the CPA method. We used Mathlink cubes to represent unknowns and counters for constants, building expressions in a hands-on, visual way. From there, we gradually moved on to solving equations without the counters, as their confidence grew.
The best part is one of my pupil said, “I’m not scared to put my hand up in maths now!” Moments like that are what make it all worthwhile.

Happy Fibonacci Day !!!
Today’s date, 11/23, matches numbers in the Fibonacci sequence—a series where each number is the sum of the two before it: 1, 1, 2, 3, 5, 8, and so on. This pattern is more than just math; it’s a blueprint for beauty.
This sequence often appears in GCSE Maths when exploring sequences, but its beauty extends far beyond the classroom. Look around, and you’ll find it everywhere: in the spirals of sunflower seeds, the curves of seashells, and even the swirling paths of hurricanes.
Fibonacci’s sequence is a reminder that math isn’t just about numbers—it’s a way to explore the stunning patterns of our world❤️.

One key challenge children face with ratio problems is recognizing that they are, in fact, ratio-based. Examiners often avoid using the term “ratio” explicitly or presenting it clearly in the question.
As a result, students need to identify other hints suggesting a ratio solution like a detective🕵️.
Below are some common keywords that may signal the need for a ratio approach:

A challenge a day keeps boredom away!
Here is your VOCABULARY for July! Children could learn one each morning!
If you'd like a printable PDF copy to print out, please send me a PM.
Each month, I'll post 15 vocabulary words that I think your child should know by the time they are around 11 or 12 years old (this isn't official or tied to any curriculum, just my opinion )
This resource is designed for interactive learning experiences with your child. Here are a few activities you could engage in together.
🌱Write a sentence for each of the words that your child knows already.
🌱Could you challenge yourself to write a sentence using two or three new words?
🌱After the challenge, encourage your child to write a story, using as many of these words as possible in 50 words or less. We'd love to hear their creative stories, so feel free to share them!
