Can you solve this rather challenging maths question?
A positive number is said to be JIGGLY if it has four digits, all non-zero, and no matter how you arrange those digits you always obtain a multiple of 12. How many JIGGLY positive integers are there?
If so, you can call yourselves one of the smartest in the country!
Useful maths trick
The word 'Palindrome' has captured my attention twice in the last few days. I did a lesson on palindromic numbers a few days ago at work. Yesterday, while doing English with my son at home, I came face to face with palindromic words. This gave me a good reason to do a post on the same, specially after a few lazy months. A palindrome is a word that spells the same backwards and forwards such as madam, wow, civic, noon, so on. There are a few palindomic names such as Hannah, Bob.
You must be wondering, "why are they doing a post on English, specially when they are supposed to be celebrating maths." However, we are actually celebrating maths, which is no less blessed than English, with palindromic numbers. A palindromic number is a number that reads the same back and forth such as 515, 6006 etc. In other words, it is a symmetrical number i.e it has a line of symmetry.
All one digit numbers are palindromic. Some of the two digit palindromic numbers are 11,22,33,44. We have palindromic primes as well such as 2,7,11,101.
Try this:
1) Take a two digit number for example 19.
2) Reverse the digits i.e 91.
3) Add the two numbers together
19+91=110.
4)Repeat the above steps
110+011=121 which is a palindromic number.
Sometimes, you get a palindromic number in one iteration such as 17+71=88. At other times it can take you a few iterations. You can try 68.
The word palindrome derives its name from a Greek word 'palindromus' which means to run back again. As far as the application of palindromes is concerned, palindromic sequences are found in DNA strands and in some proteins. They are also used in the field of recreational mathematics such as magic squares and magic puzzles. In the field of literature, use of palindromes will result in what is called 'restrained writing'.
What an amazing number fact that I came across today!
1^3 + 5^3 + 3^3=153
16^3 + 50^3 + 33^3=165033
166^3 + 500^3 + 333^3=166500333
1666^3 + 5000^3 + 3333^3 =166650003333
And so on.
P.S : 1^3=1 cubed
5^3=5 cubed which is 125.

Let me know if you know answer!!
I have come across this funny yet logical set of questions. Though it is not directly linked to maths but check our logical reasoning ability hence somewhere connected. It's partly for fun and partly to prepare those students who are going to attend interviews for higher studies or jobs .
Question 1: How do you put a giraffe into a refrigerator?
Answer 1: Open the refrigerator, put in the giraffe, and close the door.
This question tests whether you overcomplicate simple tasks. Most people assume the giraffe is larger than the fridge and use elaborate descriptions to solve that problem.
Question 2: How do you put an elephant into a refrigerator?
If you’re like most people, you probably said “Open the refrigerator, put in the elephant, and close the door.” That’s the wrong answer.
Answer 2: Open the refrigerator, take out the giraffe, put in the elephant, and close the door.
Question 2 is designed to test your ability to think through the repercussions of your previous actions. Each decision cannot be made in isolation.
Question 3: The Lion King is hosting an animal conference. All of the animals attend, except for one. Which animal does not attend?
Answer 3: The elephant, of course. You just put the elephant in the refrigerator.
Question 3 is designed to test your memory and to associate events which don’t seem related.
Question 4: You need to cross a river but it is inhabited by crocodiles. You don’t have a boat but you do have a refrigerator. What should you do?
Answer 4: Jump into the river and swim across. All of the crocodiles are attending the animal conference.
Question 4 is designed to see whether you can ignore extraneous information (the refrigerator) and whether you learn from your mistakes in the previous questions.
I doubt this quiz is scientifically accurate and therefore it’s difficult to draw any specific conclusions from it. Nonetheless, it’s fun to consider what it might say about your personality.
How did you do on the quiz. Pls let me know.
Do you know that world’s most ancient Hashing Algorithm known as Katapayadi system has its origin in India.
Those who don't know what Hashing Algorithm is; in simple language it is about representing text in the form of a unique number because in computing comparing numbers is faster than comparing text, and this technique is used by prominent search engines today to make search faster.
This technique was first used in Carnatic music system to give a unique number to each raga, so that by just knowing the raga name one would be able to tell its number and by knowing the number one can derive the swara sthanas (note) of that raga!
Another reason to feel proud of our rich heritage.
