Rubik's Cube Workshop!

Had a brilliant time at our Rubik's Cube workshop this Summer! Beyond just being fun, cube-solving is a fantastic way for children to build:

-Problem-solving & logical thinking
-Patience and persistence
-Memory and pattern recognition
-Fine motor skills and hand-eye coordination
-Confidence from mastering something tricky

It's amazing to watch the moment it clicks and they solve it for the first time! Thanks to everyone who joined us.

What if maths felt more like designing your own theme park than completing a worksheet?

Over two exciting Summer Enrichment Workshop sessions, our young designers became theme park engineers with a £1,000,000 budget and one mission...

Design the Ultimate Theme Park!

Working as junior designers, they had to:

- Choose rides and attractions
- Work within a realistic budget
- Measure spaces and design an effective layout
- Use coordinates and spatial reasoning
- Solve unexpected mathematical challenges
- Adapt to surprise grants, repairs and additional costs
- Explain and justify their decisions like real engineers

Throughout the project they developed far more than mathematical skills. They strengthened their:

✨ Problem-solving skills
✨ Critical thinking
✨ Creativity and imagination
✨ Financial awareness and budgeting
✨ Communication and collaboration
✨ Resilience when plans had to change
✨ Confidence in applying maths to real-life situations

Watching their ideas develop from an initial concept to a completed theme park over two sessions was fantastic. The creativity, perseverance and enthusiasm they showed were something to be proud of.

This is just one of the exciting SoFunFinity Summer Enrichment Workshops I'm developing for Years 3–5, designed to inspire curiosity, creativity and a genuine love of mathematics through engaging, real-world challenges that bring learning to life.

'Venn Diagrams' interleaving with 'Types of Number'

Combining two important maths skills: Types of Number and Venn Diagrams.

Using properties such as:
-Square numbers
-Multiples
-Prime numbers
-Cube numbers
-Factors

Students decided exactly where each number belonged. Some numbers fitted just one category, some belonged in both, and others didn't belong in either.

This activity encouraged pupils to:

-Think mathematically rather than guess.
-Justify their reasoning.
-Discuss different strategies.
-Strengthen their understanding of number properties through interleaving and retrieval practise.

It was excellent to see such focused determination and breakthrough moments as students build the confidence needed for their upcoming exams.

• Topic Focus: An interactive review of the Transformations of Shapes to solidify concepts.

• Exam Preparation: Working through a rigorous selection of past papers and predictive papers to master exam technique and timing under pressure.

• Particular focus on tricky areas bespoke to each individual, further developing confidence.
