This is the outdoor space we are lucky enough to use Thursday mornings. Outdoor space is essential for children’s physical, social, and emotional development. Playing outside gives children the opportunity to run, climb, explore, and engage in active games that improve their fitness and coordination. It also encourages creativity and imagination, as children can invent games, interact with nature, and discover new things in their environment. Outdoor areas provide a place for children to build friendships, learn teamwork, and develop confidence through shared activities.

During our caterpillar lifecycle experience, the children showed great curiosity and enthusiasm as they observed the caterpillars changing over time. They carefully watched the caterpillars grow, form chrysalides and eventually become butterflies, developing an understanding of growth and change in the natural world. The children used new vocabulary such as ‘caterpillar’, ‘chrysalis’ and ‘butterfly’ during discussions and asked thoughtful questions about what would happen next. This experience encouraged patience, observation skills and caring attitudes towards living things while supporting communication and understanding of the world 🦋🐛
