ColourWheel South Hampshire Accessible, fun and creative art classes especially for people who think they can't draw or paint 🎨

ColourWheel art classes for adults are part-time and have been designed for beginners and improvers. Drawing inspiration from nature and the rich colour wheel of life we will teach you the techniques you need to produce beautiful works of art. If you think you can’t draw you‘re wrong, you just need to be shown how. Giving you the right tools and skills you will be on your way to producing work you

never thought you could. Over the 14 weeks you will be instructed how to use different paint materials to the best effect. Sketching and working with different mediums depending on the projects you are working on. You will be guided gently and taught by our wonderful and encouraging tutors. You will explore your creativity and produce paintings and drawings you will be proud to show others. The Colour Wheel Art courses are a fun and friendly place to learn and make new friends. Held in lovely venues that will inspire you, we will help you to see the world in a new and exciting way. Our courses are flexible and allow improvers or those who have some art skills under their belts to build on what they already know and move forward to the next steps in their creative journey. Our course tutors are experienced working artists and teachers. A Course co-ordinator will attend each lesson assisting the tutor allowing each tutor to concentrate solely on what they do best, teaching you how to draw and paint.

Last week we ran our postponed Portrait classes focusing on Expressions. It was a great class and the focus took the pressure off the difficulty of a formal portrait. Everyone enjoyed creating these wonderful characters and learning about facial structures and shading techniques.
That’s is now for the rest of summer - we will be back in the Autumn for our next course of lessons. If you want to join the fun starting in September please email me on

Week 12 saw our last lesson of our summer term this year. Braving the hot weather again we ended with a mixed media study of fruity Pomegranates and our medium was the humble biro, accompanied by watercolour pencils. Some artists chose to challenge themselves by drawing from the real thing whilst others chose an image, but all produced some wonderful studies of this rather interesting creation of nature 😃

With our Week 11 Wednesday class postponed until later in July, we managed to run a full Thursday class in our penultimate week of term. It was Portrait week but we lightened the pressure of this tricky subject by drawing a variety of Expressions on some famous faces. Artists used pencil and also graphite powder for some different effects. Please enjoy the Thursday group’s drawings here.

Week 10 we were using gouache to paint in the style of another artist - David Hockney - and were trying to keep cool in the extreme heatwave by painting swimming pools. The sea of blue in the class managed to keep our spirits up even if it didn’t keep our temperatures down 😂
