CONFIDENCE STARTS WITHIN.

Yesterday I was talking to one of my students.

She wanted to see a photo of herself doing a kick — but asked if we could remove her face.

I asked why.

She said, “I don't like looking at myself.”

That stuck with me.

Because I get it.

I have dark bags under my eyes.
A big nose, complete with blackheads 😂
A double chin.
A gap between my front teeth you could probably fit a 50p through.
One tooth is false after I smashed it as a teenager.
My left eye sometimes has a mind of its own.
I talk too fast.
And sometimes I get a twitch in my face.

I was bullied as a teenager for a face like a pepperoni pizza.

But as I've got older, I've realised something:

What can anyone say about me that I haven't already said to myself?

We are often our own worst critics.

Confidence isn't looking in the mirror and thinking you're perfect.

It's knowing you're NOT perfect — and being okay with that.

This is my face.
This is my body.
It's what God gave me.

And do I care what you look like?

No.

I care if you're kind. If you try. If you get back up. If you stand up for yourself and others. If you're becoming a good human being.

That's something I want every student at Blue Wave Taekwondo to understand.

We'll teach you to kick and punch.

But more importantly, I want you to learn to stand tall, stop apologising for who you are and be proud of the person you're becoming.

Because real confidence doesn't start with what you see in the mirror.

It starts within. 🥋

A genuine question for parents… 👇

We always encourage our children to be brave, stand up for others and not just watch when someone is being bullied.

But would you still encourage your child to step in today, knowing they could potentially put themselves at risk?

Or would you tell them to stay safe and get an adult?

I’d be really interested to hear what other parents think.

What would you tell your child to do?

We’ve all heard the saying “If you fall off the wagon, get back on.”

But what if you didn’t fall off… what if you jumped? 🤔

I heard something recently that really made me think about this.

Whether it’s training, fitness, eating better, work or just life in general — we all come off track sometimes.

The important thing isn’t really **how you got off the wagon**.

It’s how long you stay off it.

And remember, getting back on doesn’t mean starting again.

**You’ve already started. You’re just continuing the journey.**

🥋 Have a watch and let me know what you think.

This is how friends help each other practice the splits. Haha

**Why do parents actually put their kids into martial arts? 🥋**

I've been thinking about this quite a bit recently.

After speaking to parents over the years, I've realised it's very rarely just because they want their child to learn how to kick and punch.

There's normally something else behind it.

Confidence.
Discipline.
Getting them more active.
Making friends.
Self-defence.
Or sometimes just finding something they genuinely enjoy.

And sometimes the reason the **child** wants to do martial arts is completely different to the reason the **parent** wants them to do it! 😂

I recorded this little video with some of my thoughts.

I'd genuinely love to hear from other parents...
