🍁🍂🎃AUTUMNAL PLAYDOUGH! My kitchen smells unreal! What a way to spend a Sunday evening. We have:

🏠🎨COLOUR SORTING! Not only are the children learning their colours by sorting the people into the correct colour houses, they are also learning to problem solve. Watching two children and how they handle their task individually is so intriguing.

One child sorts each person one by one so picks up a person and sees what colour it is and pops it in the right house. The second child chooses a house and finds all the people until there are no more people of that colour left.

Isn’t it amazing how little minds find different strategies at such a young age learning their problem solving skills 🏠🎨

🎃PUMPKIN PIE PLAYDOUGH! Our homemade scented autumnal playdough smelt so good! We had autumn cutters and the children were able to shape, feel, smell being able to explore all the senses 🎃

🌰BONKERS ABOUT CONKERS! What a lovely autumn walk, the children saw green spiky balls on the floor and were fascinated. A great focus point for conversation. We stopped and the children picked them up and had a feel, they said they looked like hedgehogs. We then broke them open and found conked treasure! The children then went on a hunt and soon we had more. Mathmatical and scientific language used such as big, small, more, less, spikey smooth, green and brown. The list was endless, and provided so much fun in our natural environment 🌰

🖼️ GLUEING AND STICKING! Sometimes it’s not about having an organised activity, sometimes it’s about providing the materials and seeing where the imagination takes each child. Today we have had monsters, daddy, flowers, butterflies and the list has been endless. Where a picture has maybe started as one thing it has finished as something very different. Small things such as picking up sequins encourage those fine motors skills as well as learning to spread the glue helping build those hand muscles used for writing ✍️

📚ROALD DAHL DAY! He captured the imagination of generations of children with his magnificent stories! Literature is such an important part of a child’s learning and reading stories like the ones written by this man help develop brains in so many different ways! 📚

🕊️🦅🦆We have had a super busy morning at Washington Wetlands this morning. The children got to see so much more wildlife than birds. They even got to rescue a baby hedgehog which was a highlight of the day! They also got to see a huge slug and we chatted about it’s antenna and slimy skin! 🕊️🦅🦆

😎We haven’t posted for a while, as we have been super busy over the summer holiday’s! Our gang has been busy in the sun this morning with paints and water play, keeping nice and cool whilst playing outdoors 😎

🎨🖌️SENSORY MASTERPIECE! This activity started off as painting but soon materialised into sensory play. It was the pouring of paint out of the pots, the squeezing of sponges so the paint drips off, the swishing and smothering of paint on fingers. It wasn’t about the picture you could create it was how it felt. This is how activities become so much more and become huge learning experiences🎨🖌️

🦉🦢🦆RAINTON MEADOWS NATURE RESERVE! A beautiful walk today to look for different types of birds. The children used their homemade binoculars to see what birds were living in their natural habitat. The children closed their eyes and we listened to the birds and the songs they were singing. We also talked about nests and searched the trees to see if we could find some. The children ticked off the birds that they saw 🦉🦢🦆

🦆🦜🦅BRITISH BIRD WEEK! Our children have been making fat balls. They chose what ingredients they wanted in their own balls and we added lard and let them set. We then went on to make our own birds and we spoke about what features a bird has. The children thoroughly enjoyed this activity and engaged so well 🦅🦜🦆

🍚RICE SENSORY PLAY! Yesterday we explored with textures by using rice. The children used utensils and containers to transfer the rice as well as their hands. This not only focused on gross motor skills but on fine motor skills too
