Happy to see you.

Not pretending to be too cool to care.

Kind.
Loyal.

Protective, but not aggressive.

Playful enough to find joy in ordinary moments.

Not interested in your status, your mistakes,
or whether you’re having your best day.

Quick to forgive.
Slow to judge.
Happy to begin again.

Present.
Patient.
Content with enough.

Offering affection without keeping score.

Perhaps that’s not so far from Buddhist practice. 🪷

I used to cope by switching off.

Don’t feel. Don’t allow. Push it down. Carry on.

But mindfulness has helped me learn another way.

To notice what arises, allow the sadness, anger or frustration to be there, and respond to myself with compassion rather than suppression.

We don’t have to pretend everything is okay.

Sometimes we need to feel what hurts so we can release it, reconnect with ourselves, and turn that pain into something powerful:

hope, compassion and love.🪷

So much of our judgement comes from the gap between how things are and how we think they should be.

Mindfulness invites us to notice the “shoulds”, soften our expectations, and become curious about the beliefs we’re holding onto.

Perhaps when we judge ourselves less, we create more space to meet others with compassion too. 🌿

I have no real strategy any more, I used to send it out weekly but that’s a bit too much of a commitment for me at the moment. So I try to keep it to useful information, often it’s triggered by my groups and topics of conversation, or events I have coming up.

I’m always open to suggestions and love to get replies from my emails about what resonated, what’s helpful and what you want more of.

An invitation to pause.

Join me for an hour of mindfulness meditation at The Calm Collective in Warwick.

We’ll slow things down, settle into the space and reconnect with the breath and body.

I’ll guide two meditations, with space in between to simply be.

No need to achieve anything.

Just an hour to step away from the noise and find a little stillness.

I remember when I exercised to lose weight, to drop a dress size and desired to be a shape I would never be.

Now I exercise to make my body and mind feel better.

My classes are not a place for competition, for pushing it or for desiring to be something you are not.

My classes are a place of inclusion, of learning to work with your body to help it function without pain, to get stronger and have some low impact fun.

So I won’t promise miracles.

BUT

I will say that regular movement can change your life.

Regular movement can improve your ability to function in daily tasks.

Regular movement can help you recover from illness and injury and surgery.

For me this is the most important thing, helping you function at YOUR best, helping you connect to YOUR body, helping you understand YOUR ability.

(…. Not the person next to you).

So if you want a bit of chat, some good quality movement, improvements in muscle/joint health, reductions in pain and the option to adapt around your body.

Get some weights.

3 sets.

LET’S GO!

Working with weights is great for functional strength as well as bone health.

Being on holiday doesn’t mean leaving healthy habits behind.

Training isn’t something I do, it’s part of my lifestyle.

So although I’ve taken a few weeks off teaching sessions, I’m still exercising regularly.

It’s how I look after both my body and mind, wherever I am.

Classes are back from Thursday, in the meantime…. Keeeeeep Moving!! 💪

I finish all of my classes with a body scan relaxation.

Scanning through each area of the body to feel the sensations in each part. I just do a quick less than 5 mins at the end of the class.

Most people love it, some don’t, but it is important.

This is why:

We spend so much of our lives thinking.

Stuck in the mental formations of our mind.

The fact that we have a body can be easily overlooked.

I have treated over the years that are completely disconnected with their body. They don’t know how to engage their muscles, they don’t know how to distinguish different sensations in their body, they don’t know what sensations mean.

And why would they? If you have never looked in, deeply allowed yourself to feel, connected with your body, how would you know because no one teaches you this stuff.

If anything we get taught the opposite. Grit your teeth and get on with it, ignore your pain, take a pill, go see the doctor, put your body in the hands of an experienced professional.

When actually you are the professional of your body, you live there!

So a body scan is more than just a relaxation tool. It is a way to gently start to feel into your body. A gentle way to notice what sensations are happening. To be focused and concentrated on the feelings and processes happening inside of you.

The more you learn to listen, the more you hear, feel and understand.

Your body is your home, try to feel it, try to love it, learn to look after it.

And often that starts with stillness, and/or gentle, conscious, aware movement.
