This week in preschool we have been focussing on the story “we’re going on a bear hunt”. The children have been using the different props to retell the story themselves as well as exploring lots of different sensory materials to match the different aspects of the story.
Also as it was thanksgiving this week the children have been making their own turkey pictures to mark the occasion.
This week our focus in the under two’s room has been hats. We have been reading the book “ Hat on, hat off” and are encouraging the children to wear hats now that the weather is getting colder.
We added other hats to make the activity fun and they have enjoyed looking at themselves in the mirror. The children have been practicing their fine motor skills and hand dexterity, mark making on different pictures of hats.
The children have also enjoyed decorating their own hat pictures, using stamps and paint.

This week at CVN in preschool we have been focusing on the differences between animals who hibernate and those who don’t. We have also been looking at the different habitats and environments the animals live in.
The children have been creating their own bear masks and pictures after reading the book ‘Bears Winter House’.
In the under twos room, we have been promoting the children’s fine motor control by doing lots of threading with pasta, helping to enhance their control and hand eye coordination.

This week at CVN we have honoured our history by paying respects and remembering the sacrifices made by people during the wars to preserve our freedom.
We learned about the significance of poppies and made many, using different techniques and materials. The children even observed a minute’s silence (well, almost) which we were very proud of.
We read the story Owl Babies, and enjoyed some role play in the specially prepared sensory tuff tray.
Baby room went on a Bear Hunt listening to the story and enjoying a multi sensory experience.
Lastly, we have celebrated Children in Need with a
Staff and Children wearing pajamas, all contributing to such a worthy cause. They loved showing off their pajama sets and making Pudsey Bears.

Autumn is just the best time of year and we have welcomed it with an abundance of activities, celebrating its warm colours, comforting scents and cosy story times. We have it all going on at CVN.
We have used apples from our gardens to make apple crumble, and baked gingerbread cookies (they were delicious!) inspired by our story of the week.
The children have been getting active in the mornings with their Autumn yoga sessions and we also took our contributions to join the Harvest celebrations at church.
The children have been creating art and crafts using all the natural resources they have collected on our walks. We have been printing on and shaping ginger, nutmeg and cinnamon scented play-dough.
They have really enjoyed exploring and discovering all the warm and wonderful signs of Autumn 2025.
