Say Yes to Mess! 🎨🌿

Mud on knees, paint-covered fingers, sand in shoes and water everywhere. It might look like mess, but for children it can be an experiment, an adventure, a work of art or a new discovery.

We’ve launched The Mess Report, new research exploring how families feel about messy play and whether children today are getting enough opportunities to experience it.

After speaking to 1,000 UK parents of children under 10, we found that 79% agree messy play supports children’s development, creativity and wellbeing, yet 70% believe children today don’t get enough opportunities to get messy.

We’re calling this The Mess Gap.

The Mess Report explores what might be behind that gap, why opportunities to pour, squash, mix, dig, build, splash and create are so valuable, and how we can make more space for them in childhood.

At Kids Planet, we’re proud to say Yes to Mess because we know there is method in the mess, and behind every muddy handprint and paint splatter is an opportunity for learning.

We know that sleep is an important part of every child's growth, development and wellbeing. 💚

Recently, updated safer sleep guidance came into effect across the early years sector - reinforcing the importance of creating safer sleep environments for babies and young children.

At Kids Planet, safer sleep practices are embedded across our nurseries, and our teams work closely with families to support each child's individual routine.

Our new Baby House at Kids Planet Witney is officially open! 🎉💛

Yesterday, we celebrated the opening of our brand-new space, which will create 60 additional places for babies aged six weeks to 15 months.

We were also delighted to welcome the Mayor of Witney, Councillor Jane Doughty, to help us mark the occasion and officially open the new space. ✨

Designed to provide a calm, nurturing home-from-home, our Baby House will support little ones through their earliest milestones, from feeds and naps to sensory play, outdoor exploration and building those all-important relationships.

A huge thank you to everyone who joined us to celebrate, we can’t wait to welcome even more families to Kids Planet Witney. 💛

Apprentices are an integral part of Kids Planet, developing their skills while making a difference in our nurseries every day. 💚

Alana joined Kids Planet unqualified in 2024 and began her apprenticeship through our in-house Training Academy. After completing her Level 3, she is now working towards her Level 5 and has progressed to Deputy Manager.

Her journey has taken her from learning on the job and gaining hands-on experience to developing the knowledge and skills to progress her career, supported by the people around her at Kids Planet.

We’re proud to continue investing in apprenticeships that support long-term development, progression and rewarding careers across Kids Planet.

🎉 We’re celebrating the Grand Opening of Kids Planet Sandymoor! 💚

Today, we’ve officially welcomed local families through the doors of our brand-new, purpose-built nursery in Runcorn.

The day included nursery tours, refreshments and a special visit from the local Mayor of Halton, giving families the chance to meet our team and explore the setting.

Kids Planet Sandymoor has been designed to create a nurturing, inspiring environment where children can learn, explore and thrive, with spacious rooms, engaging learning resources and fantastic outdoor areas. 🌿

A huge thank you to everyone joining us today, and to our brilliant Sandymoor team for all their hard work in bringing the nursery to life.

we baked shortbread cookies together! The children were so responsible, showing that they really understood the importance of hygiene. It was heartwarming to see them wash their hands thoroughly with soap before each stage of the process. Whenever someone touched their face or anything else, we gently reminded them to wash their hands again to keep the germs at bay.

As we followed the recipe, the children listened beautifully and learned about halves and wholes while measuring the ingredients. They really enjoyed using their big muscles to mix everything together!

We were all delighted when our chef brought out some child-sized aprons and hats. The looks on their faces were just priceless!

Today we practiced using measuring tapes, exploring the concept of centimetres and inches on the measuring tape. I asked the smallest child and tallest child in the room to lay down, we drew around them and then measured each child. We discussed which one was taller and shorter based on the measurements which the children all discussed correctly. Afterwards, one child was given the responsibility of drawing around our babies (our small world characters and teddy bears) and one was given the responsibility to measure each baby!

We've put together an exciting phonics and numeracy tray using yellow water! The children had a great time exploring, digging through the water to uncover letters and share their discoveries with us. It was such a fun learning activity, and the kids came up with fantastic words when they found a letter. For example, D for Dog, Debbie, dinner, and door, and C for Cat, Cinitia, and cake! Well done, preschoolers! Keep up the great work!

In preschool, we had another lovely session making our own tea . We started off by chatting about personal hygiene and making sure our hands were very very clean . The children had the opportunity to slice peppers and cucumber and, if they wished, spread mayonnaise on their wraps before creating their own delicious combinations with cheese and ham if required . It was a fun and imaginative experience again for everyone involved! We used safe kitchen utensils to ensure everyone's well-being. Lana, our chef, came by to check on us and to show the children how very careful we need to be with the clingfilm machine.

All their tasty creations have been wrapped up and are resting in the fridge for later.

Preschool children have been exploring our magnetic number tray and they did a fantastic job recognising numbers and amounts. To support their counting, we added spots to the other numbers. we then encouraged them to match the correct number of pom poms to the numbers we asked for. It was a great way for them to practise their counting skills and engage with numbers in a fun manner!

Following on from world ocean day, we froze some of our sea animals in blue water; allowing the children to explore different animals of the ocean. With this the children were so excited to show a staff member they had smashed all the ice and also watched it melt in the water! The children thoroughly enjoyed smashing the ice blocks with their tools trying to "rescue" the animals! They were bringing in dinosaurs to 'help' while also transferring water into different containers! The preschoolers so showed great taking turns, allowing eachother to have a go at freeing the animals and it was lovely to see them working as a team!

The children enjoyed using recycled cardboard boxes to explore our creativity. The children shared ideas about crafting seaside houses and shops, which kept them happily engaged in the garden's shade for quite some time. There were some wonderful discussions about colour combinations and how to mix them to create new shades. It was truly delightful to see their imaginative creations come to life!
