Members of the QUASAR Group had a fantastic time at the International Particle Accelerator Conference in Deauville, France.
The QUASARs presented latest research results and developments, exciting project updates and upcoming events and initiatives through talks, poster presentations and an industry booth.
A second stand in the exhibition was used to promote the future . This 20th edition of the IPAC conference series will be held in Liverpool and organised by the QUASAR Group and the wider UK accelerator community.

Researchers at the AEgIS experiment at CERN's Antimatter Factory, including members of the University of Liverpool's QUASAR Group, have taken the first steps towards capturing and spectrometrically assessing highly charged ions produced following antiproton annihilations - a foundational step toward an entirely new class of nuclear physics measurements.

Researchers, accelerator experts, and industrial stakeholders from across Europe gathered at Technische Universität Darmstadt on 7–8 May 2026 for the ARTIFACT-DN Workshop,
Building on the momentum of the ARTIFACT ecosystem and several recently funded Horizon Europe initiatives, the workshop marked an important step towards the development of ARTIFACT-DN, an ambitious European training network focused on advancing artificial intelligence for next-generation particle accelerators and large-scale research infrastructures.

The PACRI (Plasma Accelerator Systems for Compact Research Infrastructures) project held its first annual meeting at the Instituto Superior Técnico (IST) in Lisbon, Portugal, from 24–26 March.
The meeting brought together project partners both in person and online to share updates and discuss progress across the various work packages and project tasks, while also addressing governance and strategic planning through the PACRI General Assembly.
Prof Carsten P. Welsch, Head of the QUASAR Group and PACRI WP2 Scientific and Industrial Exploitation Lead, provided an overview of developments in dissemination and communication activities, alongside updates on the project’s evolving scientific and industrial exploitation strategy.
During the General Assembly, QUASAR Dr Debdeep Ghosal, l led a discussion on collaboration platforms and institutional constraints, facilitating a consortium-wide exchange to explore potential common software solutions.

Congratultions 👏 to three of our PhD students, Ondřej Sedláček, Oliver Stringer and Catherine Swain, who successfully completed their doctoral theses.
Their work spans cutting-edge accelerator diagnostics, contributing to major international facilities including CERN’s Large Hadron Collider (LHC) and AWAKE experiment.

The fourth edition of the Reinforcement Learning for Autonomous Accelerators (RL4AA’26) workshop was held in Liverpool from 30th March to 1st April 2026 as a LIV.INNO workshop.
The workshop focused on the practical application of reinforcement learning to complex, real-world systems, with particular attention to the challenges of moving from proof-of-concept studies to reliable deployment in large-scale scientific facilities. Discussions reflected both the strong interest in these methods and the current technical barriers, including infrastructure, safety, and integration into existing control systems.

EuPRAXIA Gains Momentum at High-Level Brussels Event
The Showcase highlighted hashtag ’s vision to deliver a next-generation, compact plasma-based accelerator facility, capable of transforming applications across science, medicine, and industry.
Discussions underlined the importance of coordinated European investment and long-term funding strategies to ensure the successful implementation of large-scale infrastructures such as EuPRAXIA .
