evels of government guidelines concerning curriculum and welfare. We are continually looking to support each other, and encourage our children in their personal and educational progress. Our children are grouped by age into separate rooms where their specific needs can be fully catered to, with the day’s schedule organised around the necessities of that age group. Babies in our care are assigned their own key member of staff to ensure constant close interaction, while activities appropriate to Early Years Foundation Stage learning are planned throughout the day, and children are able to take advantage of our large sensory area and treasury baskets, designed to enhance development. Toddlers have an extensive playroom divided into a ‘messy’ area for arts and crafts, and an area for floor and table-top play. Different members of staff are based in each area to encourage children in various activities, and individual beds and blankets are provided for each child. Two outside play times afford them the luxury of a play area including climbing frames, bikes, and the nursery pets! For Early Learners we have a room divided into many areas which operates on a ‘step’ basis, allowing children to progress in their learning through activities and interactive displays. There is a great amount of fun, but also a lot to learn, each child being allocated a key worker who keeps a record of their progress. Outside play, music and movement sessions are a large part of the day, as well as visits to the library, and to the park to feed the ducks. The children are encouraged to become more independent, brushing their teeth after meals and following a full potty training regime. Children of Preschool age are encouraged in their independence, as they are offered choices in regards to the activities in which they partake. Children are encouraged in a wide range of new skills including reading and writing. Pre-schoolers enjoy an extended range of outdoor activities geared towards learning, such as recycling and building our vegetable patch. Physical education, language and music lessons are introduced, with extensive outdoor activities in the garden, and visits to the local library, museum, shops and other charms in the community. We help Preschool age children prepare for the leap into Primary School, with the opportunity to take part in PE, letter and sounds sessions, as well as weekly french lessons.
