What are the benefits of learning so young? Having taught older children for 10 years, they are quite often disinterested and find language learning extremely difficult. They don’t understand the purpose and struggle to pronounce words correctly which frustrates them. The younger the child, the better they are at copying sounds. Very young children can mimic new sounds almost perfectly. The brain is open to new sounds and learning just happens. At this age, young children have time to learn through play-like activities and can have fun in doing so which leads to a passion for languages. Children who grow up learning about languages develop empathy for others and a curiosity for different cultures and ideas; prepared to take their place in a global society. Studies confirm that learning additional languages increases critical thinking skills, creativity and flexibility of the mind in young children. Language learners are problem solvers, creative thinkers and have increased self-esteem. What can I expect from the sessions? A lot of time has gone into the planning of each session to keep children engaged and ensure we all have fun. Expect: crafts, stories, rhymes, songs, games, puppets and play opportunities. Children learn best when they are involved and have the opportunity to explore many of their senses so whether it is sitting listening to a story, running under a parachute, touching and exploring objects, learning the actions to a rhyme or playing a game – they will have lots of opportunities to explore the new language as well as improving their communication, social skills and physical development. These skills form the 3 prime areas of learning and development in the Early Years Foundation Stage Framework. I always put my passion for French down to me being given the opportunity to take part in a French exchange at just 9 years old, living with a French family for a week. Little did I know it was only the start of my language learning journey. From GCSE French, to A level, University in France, working in France and then 9 years of teaching primary and secondary French. I've now been running Les Petits Pois Fun French for 7 years and in 2021, we become a franchise. By joining our sessions, you will be giving your young child some of the early opportunities that I was lucky enough to have, but moreover you will be able to go on the journey with them. Having 2 young children, I know just how precious your time together is and so it is my promise to you that my sessions will be fun, varied and rewarding for you all. Sessions will run half-termly and will be themed each week/term. For more information and to book, visit our website www.petitspoisfunfrench.co.uk or send me a message. Merci
