Musicality: the skill nobody talks about 🎶
Anyone can learn a set of steps. What actually makes a dancer stand out is musicality, the ability to feel the music and let it shape how you move, not just when you move.
Same 8 counts, danced two completely different ways. Sharp and staccato, or slow and flowing. Same choreography, same dancer, totally different feeling, all because of the music behind it.
It’s something we work on in class from day one. Before learning the steps, we’ll often just listen first, clap the rhythm, talk about how the song makes us feel. That way, when the choreography comes in, our dancers aren’t just copying moves, they’re dancing to the music.
Next time you watch our dancers, have a listen as well as a watch. You’ll start to notice it everywhere. 👀
