We've had some phenomenal feedback come in over the course of the year for our Traineeship programme!

Skills for Security opens London training centre

Skills for Security opens London training centre Skills for Security has opened a new training centre in North London. Based in Watford, the new facility will be used to deliver both apprenticeship and pre-apprenticeship training to the fire and security sectors. The centre has 4000 sq/ft of classrooms and workshop space and is kitted out with

RISCO apprentices earn their stripes!

In conjunction with Skills for Security, RISCO UK is delivering a comprehensive introduction to the world of and creating ‘tomorrow’s engineers today’ through its apprenticeship programme. Ricardo Butler and Mehedi Hussain commenced their apprenticeships in May 2022; and after a three-month trial period, are now fully fledged members of RISCO’s technical support team, providing first line support to security installers.

Parallel to learning the complex technologies of both RISCO’s hardware infrastructure and software platforms, Ricardo and Mehedi are undertaking the Skills for Security Level 2 qualification in Customer Service.

Mehedi was glowing in his assessment of his time at RISCO to date: “Following positions in retail and logistics, I was looking for a role in technology, which has always been of interest. Prior to joining RISCO, I wasn’t sure how I could get such an opening, but the RISCO and Skills for Security apprenticeship has allowed me to learn so much about the company, products and industry. It has been such a steep curve to get to where I am now and there’s still much more to absorb, but it’s been brilliant; I now have a clear vision of my future career path, while gaining valuable qualifications in the process.”

Ricardo was equally enthused with his verdict: “I learn so much better ‘on the job’ than in a classroom environment and the apprenticeship is providing real-life and practical experience, while I get to grips with the world of security technology. I’m already responding to RISCO customer queries, and I am adding considerably to my knowledge and skills every single day. I love the programming and networking side of things and one day, I intend to start my own business – but one step at a time!”

RISCO UK Managing Director, Mark Taylor added: “It has been a pleasure to see Mehedi and Ricardo come into the business through the Skills for Security Apprenticeship Programme; and then witness the rapid growth in their understanding of our technologies and processes, allowing them to now perform critical roles in supporting our customers. I am convinced Mehedi and Ricardo will prove to be valuable assets to RISCO and the security industry in the years ahead.”

The Banks Foundation, set up by entrepreneur and founder of CSL Group, Simon Banks, have secured a 49.9% stake in Skills for Security.

This huge step allows The Banks Foundation to allocate its generated income to activities centred around young entrepreneurs that encourage and advance their careers, training, salaries and seed-fund start-ups.

David Scott, Managing Director, Skills for Security, said: “This is such a positive step that will allow us to scale-up our training operations nationally. We are well used to Simon’s involvement as he’s been Chairman for some time.

On Friday Skills for Security staff took part in a virtual quiz in support of Comic Relief: Red Nose Day!

Taking part and testing their general knowledge and entertainment knowledge, staff came together to enjoy some light hearted competition in support of a great cause and began their weekend with some fun.

Yesterdays Emergency First Aid at Work course had a great turn out and even had some of the Skills for Security team on!
