Every one of my students is an individual and I work with them to help develop their talents in the direction they want to, whether that's a particular style of music or even specific songs. I've found that the RSL Rockschool syllabus overcomes the main challenge I found to keeping myself motivated when f
irst starting: it's based around relevant pieces of music. Students work towards performing songs that they know during gradings, rather than pieces that don't really have relevance to the drummer. I have over 35 years' experience as a drummer, having played to audiences from one man and his (slightly deaf) Alsatian, to festival crowds; as well as countless hours in rehearsal rooms and recording studios. Using a combination of Mapex, Jobeky and Roland technology, my students have access to a hybrid electronic drum kit, getting all of the feel and response of professional acoustic drums, but with more control over the volume level.
