🍂🎨 Explorers have been getting creative with paint as part of our Autumn topic!

Using sticks and pinecones, the children explored making different marks, patterns and textures on paper – all while embracing the opportunity to get wonderfully messy! 🌿🖌️

This activity supported their fine motor skills, hand-eye coordination and creativity, while encouraging them to explore the natural resources and textures found around them.

🍂 Investigators have been enjoying some autumn leaf rubbing! 🍂

The children placed different leaves underneath their paper before using chalk and crayons to gently rub over the top and reveal the leaf impressions! 🍁

This activity supported the children’s fine motor skills, hand-eye coordination and creativity, while encouraging them to explore patterns, textures, shapes and the natural world. 🌿✨

We loved seeing the children’s excitement as the leaf patterns appeared! 💛

Harvest is a special time to pause and give thanks for the food we have, the work of those who grow it, and the blessings we so often take for granted.

We also use this time to help our children understand the importance of sharing, caring for others and showing kindness. ❤️ From a young age, we encourage children to appreciate what they have and to understand that even small acts of kindness can make a big difference.
It’s also a time to share what we have with others, remembering those in our community who may be struggling or going without. ❤️

We’re grateful for the generosity of everyone who has brought donations and helped us celebrate this special occasion.

🛍️ Welcome to Preschool’s Shop! 🛍️

Today, the children had a fantastic time exploring our very own shop with their peers, taking on the roles of both shopkeepers and customers. 🛒

The children demonstrated some lovely turn-taking, sharing and teamwork as they worked together in small groups. They also enjoyed exploring real-life products and using money, providing a meaningful way to develop their early maths skills through imaginative play. 💷🔢

It was wonderful to see the children using their communication, social and problem-solving skills while having lots of fun! ❤️

🧙‍♀️🧪 Spooky Season has arrived in Preschool! 🎃

Preschool have been busy making their very own potions using natural resources and coloured water. The children used their gross motor skills to transport water between different containers, explored mathematical language as they measured and compared, and used their senses to smell the different herbs. 🌿👃

🧼💧 Health & Self-Care! 💧🧼

We have been focusing on the importance of handwashing and how it helps to prevent the spread of germs. The children have been developing their independence by rolling up their sleeves, turning on the tap, using soap and carefully scrubbing their palms, the backs of their hands and between their fingers. 🫧

We use Snoap, an environmentally friendly product that supports our sustainability ethos while encouraging children to be independent with their self-care. 🌱

"Will my child be ready for school?”
It's a question so many parents ask. And it's completely understandable.💚

But school readiness isn't about having a child who can already do everything independently. It's about helping them gradually develop the skills and confidence they'll need for their new environment.

Talking positively about school, visiting when possible, practicing little routines and encouraging independence at home can all help, and remember... every child develops at their own pace. 🌱

Last Friday so many of our nurseries across the south headed to areas close to them for our big Tops litter pick💚

Sustainability is at the heart of everything we do at Tops, from growing our own herbs and fruit and vegetables, reducing our single-use plastics, planting trees and more, our children are encouraged to discover how their choices can have positive impacts.

Starting school is a big step, but there are lots of little steps that can help children feel ready. 💛
At Tops, we support children through this transition by building familiarity, confidence and independence through everyday experiences and positive conversations.

👕 Encourage independence
Let them have a go at dressing, putting on their coat and looking after their belongings.

💬 Build communication
Talk, listen, read stories together and encourage your child to express their thoughts and feelings.

👫 Practice social skills
Playing with others helps children learn to share, cooperate, listen and navigate friendships.

🎒 Make school familiar
Talk about what school might be like, visit where possible and explore new routines together.

❤️ Build emotional confidence
Talk positively about school and help your child understand that it's okay to feel excited, nervous, or both!

It’s Recycle Week! ♻️🌍

At Tops Day Nurseries, recycling is just one part of a much bigger commitment to creating a more sustainable future for the children in our care.

We’re proud to be Plastic Free Champions, actively working to reduce our reliance on single-use plastics and find more sustainable alternatives wherever we can. From reusable wet bags and nappies, to homemade wipes, bamboo toothbrushes and natural resources for play, we’re constantly looking at ways to reduce waste and rethink what we use.

Our nurseries are also working towards Zero Waste to Landfill, while our sustainability commitment includes remaining carbon neutral for Scope 1 & 2, with an aspiration to address Scope 3 too.

But perhaps most importantly, we're helping children understand that small actions matter.

Because when children learn to reuse, reduce and recycle from an early age, those habits can stay with them for life. 💚

This Recycle Week, let's all think before we throw, recycle where we can and choose reusable wherever possible.

We had such a lovely time on Friday representing Tops Poole & Parkstone on our pop-up stand in the Dolphin Centre in Poole! 💙

It was wonderful to meet parents and families from across BCP and even further afield, have some lovely conversations and share a little bit about life at Tops.

And, of course, our windmills went down a treat with the children! The wind was certainly there to help them spin, making it the perfect day for a windmill giveaway!

A big thank you to everyone who stopped by to chat with us. We loved being out in the community and can't wait to do it again soon! 💙
