🏆 CBA Member of the Year 2025–26 – Stonehouse Bakery

What an achievement for Stonehouse Bakery, named our CBA Member of the Year 2025–26 at this year’s Bakery Business Day.

For Owner and Managing Director Harvey Clacherty, the award also reflects the journey he has been on since joining the baking industry just three years ago – and the people who have supported him along the way.

Speaking after collecting the award, Harvey reflected on one of the biggest things he has learnt:

“One being community. A lot of members have been willing to help me and certainly the Craft Bakers Association has been part of that.”

He also spoke about the role that support has played in developing both his knowledge and his career:

“If it wasn't for these sort of associations, I don't think I would have been able to learn as much, as quick as possible.”

This is exactly what the CBA community is all about – bringing people across our industry together to share their knowledge, support one another and help each other grow.

A huge congratulations to Harvey and the entire Stonehouse Bakery team on a very well-deserved achievement. 👏

We’re excited to welcome Matthews Cotswold Flour as a Bronze Industry Supporter of the Craft Bakers Association

Matthews Cotswold Flour is Britain’s leading artisan flour mill, providing award-winning speciality flour to home bakers, leading trade bakeries, wholesalers and more.

A 110-year-old mill and an 8th generation family business founded by the Matthews family and currently run by Managing Director, Bertie Matthews. Matthews is spearheading the journey from field to flour to form, working directly with local farmers growing British wheat in conventional, regenerative, and organic grain varieties.

Our Cotswold Grain Partnership ensures a collaboration between the mill and farmers to ensure harvest is fruitful, new opportunities are being developed, and we’re supporting locally. Having supplied Britain’s Best Loaf winners for the past 5 years, we work with bakers to ensure quality and consistency every time.

Farmers and bakers are the lifeline of Matthews, and we nurture both by ensuring a smooth collaboration and journey from field to fork.

A look back at centuries of baking 🍞

Our Chairman, Nick Harris, recently joined the National Bakery School on a visit to the Weald & Downland Living Museum, exploring traditional baking methods and how they have evolved over the centuries.

The group was welcomed by Jane Hatton, former lecturer at the National Bakery School, before visiting the Tudor kitchen, where traditional techniques were brought to life. Students whisked egg whites using twig whisks, a fish ‘coffin’ was made and cooked over the embers, before bread was baked in the oven.

Once the bread was baked, the remaining heat would then be used for tartlets, milk puddings and stews – making the most of the energy available.

The group also visited the Victorian bakehouse, where they tasted bread baked in the wood-fired oven using flour milled at the museum’s own watermill, before heading to the Anglo-Saxon bread oven.

Reflecting on the visit, Nick said: “While the method of heat generation has changed over the years, the actual ovens work on the same principle, just in different shapes.”

A fascinating day exploring the history behind the craft and seeing how the principles of baking have stood the test of time.

Big news - Unyfi is now a member of the Craft Bakers Association!

Unyfi is an independent procurement consultancy helping bakeries cut costs and cut hassle, all through one trusted team:

Energy - bakeries are some of the most energy-hungry businesses on the high street. Unyfi finds competitive gas and electricity deals, stop you slipping onto expensive out-of-contract rates, and can steer you toward renewables too.

Waste - sorted, compliant, and one less thing to think about, from flour sacks to food waste.

Card payments - better rates on transactions, whether it's your bakery till or online orders, so more of every sale stays with you.

No sales pitch - just honest, independent advice that protects your margins.

Unyfi is looking forward to supporting CBA members! Get in touch - Energy, Waste & Merchant Services for Bakers | Unyfi

📣Industry Supporter sponsored message Rademaker BV
What many craft bakeries realised this year:
growing without structure increases risk.

Whether it’s margins, people or consistency, success increasingly depends on how well complexity is managed inside the process.

At Rademaker, we help bakeries design production lines that support growth, protect craft quality and reduce operational risk.
