Congratulations Neil on passing Nidan
Dear Iaidobu Members,
Due to the ongoing COVID-19 situation all iaidobu events are cancelled until further notice. Sadly, this includes our 2020 Summer Seminar. As soon as we are in a position to consider running events again we will let you know.
We hope that by now, in line with the Goverment's instructions, all dojo sessions are stopped and no one is meeting up for training. However, we encourage individuals/dojo to use tools like Zoom, Teams, Skype, WhatsApp, Facebook Messanger etc. for collective training, or just keeping in touch for a chat and a laugh together through these challenging times.
Our budo communities are like families and we should continue to be there for each other. If you have budo friends who do not have access to online tools for face-to-face meeting, please keep them in mind and call them to stay in touch.
Kind regards,
Will.
Dear Iaido & Jodo Bu Members,
You will already be aware that, due to the COVID-19 virus pandemic, we
have taken the decision to cancel the Spring Seminar on 21st/22nd March,
the Iai & Jo Nationals on 4th/5th April and the Scottish Iaido Seminar
on 25th/26th April. We have already received a few emails requesting
reimbursements so this message is to clarify how this will be done. The
following points should answer the most common queries we've received:
1. Payments received for the Spring and Scottish Seminars and for the
Nationals (Iaido and Jodo), will be refunded in full - this will cover
event and grading fees. You do not need to request a refund (e.g. by
email) - we know who has signed up and refunds will be made in due course.
2. Refunds will be done directly through WorldPay, we shouldn't need any
bank details from you.
3. If you would prefer to defer your seminar and/or grading fee to a
later date instead of receiving a refund then please DO email the
events/gradings officers who will record this. Please let us know by
Monday 23rd March - after this date we will be assume you require a refund.
4. Unfortunately the Bu are unable to refund travel and accommodation
costs that members may already have incurred. We would advise contacting
your hotel/B&B.
5. We also advise that members avoid 'saver' travel / accommodation
deals which do not provide cancellation or refund options.
As we are in uncharted territory it's impossible to say how long the
situation will go on for or how far it will extend. Developments are
happening at a rapid pace so please keep and eye on emails and the BKA
website for updates, but most of all keep yourselves safe and well!
Best Wishes,
The Iaido & Jodo

Subject: URGENT: Iaido Summer Seminar Accommodation
Dear Iaidobu Members,
As you may know the Iaido Summer Seminar is set for the 4th-6th August at Cambridge University. Neither Ishido Sensei nor Osh*ta Sensei are available this year due to their busy schedules. However I am very pleased to announce that Matsuoka Sensei (kyoshi hachidan) and Kinomoto Sensei (kyoshi hachidan) will be leading the seminar, which will be focussed like last year on ZNKR kata. They are excellent teachers and part of the group including Ishido Sensei and Osh*ta Sensei, so this represents a positive step in re-establishing the iaidobu’s relationship with these great teachers (I hope that we will return to the Ishido Sensei - Osh*ta Sensei cycle from next year). They will be assisted by Shoji Sensei (kyoshi nanadan) and our own UK nanadan teachers.
Our Events Officer has secured 14 twins and 3 single rooms (for the Iaido part of the Summer Seminar) at Churchill College Students Accommodations, a 20 min walk from the dojo. (https://www.chu.cam.ac.uk/study-us/undergraduates/accommodation/).
The prices, including breakfast, are:
£93/twin (£46.50 each) per night
£72/single per night
If you would like to take advantage of this accommodation, please book via the Google form by Monday 28 January 11pm.
https://docs.google.com/forms/d/e/1FAIpQLSf-UA6qsmW5S6CTPfkFJaJRdBdQhkUyp2DzeYbsj1_puvFGbw/viewform?vc=0&c=0&w=1. Rooms will be allocated on a first come, first served basis. You can also book yourself in for the jodo part if you are doing both seminars.
Payment will be due in a few months time, when the BKA online booking goes live.
Kind regards,
Will.
