🌈🌧💧RAINBOWS & THE WATER CYCLE! This week we put on our science hats to explore the water cycle and rainbows! At our science table, we used shaving foam and blue water to create our own rain cycle in a jar, and tried a walking rainbow experiment with kitchen roll and the three primary colours to see how rainbow colours are formed. Later in the week, rain showers gave us the chance to watch water evaporating as mist from the wendy house roof—an amazing active learning moment! In the nursery, we created rainbows using shape cutters while learning the seven colours of the rainbow, and mixed paints with our hands to discover new colours! We learned some cool facts, like how rainbows are actually full circles, but we only see an arc because the Earth blocks part of the view. We also talked about why water is so important and how it’s part of our daily lives. Do the children remember how many glasses of water we should drink each day to stay healthy?! 🌈🌧💧

We are looking forward to welcoming the children back next week and hearing about their adventures! Over the half term 3 new mole holes have appeared by the alliums! We set up the wildlife camera and left out water and whilst we didn't see any moles, we had our first sighting of one of the village's muntjac deers and a speckled warbler having a drink!

PETS VS WILD ANIMALS WEEK! 🐕🐈🐢What a way to wrap up the half term! This week we explored the differences between pets and wild animals. A huge thank you to the parents who brought in their family pets! We met adorable dogs—Coco, Bramble, Bear, Barney, and Woody—along with a very friendly rescue cat named Tom and his best friend, a tortoise called Jerry. We loved watching videos and seeing photos of pets at home; thank you for sharing them on behalf of the children. We saw Loki enjoying juicy blackberries, Frank devouring a dog-friendly birthday cake, and Oxley relaxing with his favourite ball. We also met sweet guinea pigs named Tom and Jerry and some cheeky cats—big shout out to Gunter, Ralphie, Mitzko, Daisy, and Clover! The children had plenty of lively discussions about all kinds of animals, sorting them into wild animals, pets, or those that could be either. We enjoyed role-playing as vets, caring for our soft animal toys, and celebrating World Bee Day 🐝🐝. Wishing everyone a lovely half term!

HERITAGE WEEK! 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁳󠁣󠁴󠁿🇸🇪🇫🇷🇷🇸🇮🇹🇧🇬🇮🇪🇺🇸🇬🇧🏴󠁧󠁢󠁥󠁮󠁧󠁿This week has been so much fun! We spent the week exploring the children’s different heritage countries in an immersive way, enjoying cinnamon buns from Sweden and pretzels from Germany, dancing the Serbian Kolo, and learning about national animals and instruments—favourites included the French horn and Irish harp. We even tried playing the Scottish bagpipes, which took quite a bit of puff! We learned to count to five in Scots, German, and Italian, and how to say hello in all our different languages. One of the trickiest parts was mastering the Bulgarian custom of nodding for no and shaking your head for yes! For our maths challenge we looked at number representation and in literacy we looked at the letter Cc. Out in the garden, we started planting in our veg and pumpkin patch, hoping to grow plenty of pumpkins along with runner beans, peppers, and carrots! 🥕🎃🌱🌶

HOBBIES & INTERESTS WEEK! We had a jam packed week where the children enjoyed showing off their hobbies, interests & skills to each other! We were shown the first position in ballet, we listened to wonderful piano playing and discovered one of the children is an Elvis fan! We were taught how to swing a golf club correctly and enjoyed being shown a variety of collections - from toys, to shells and rocks! Outside the nursery we have nesting blue t**s and we have been watching them from a far flying in and out all week.  We hope to capture some footage of the fledglings when they are ready to leave the nest!  We finished the week with a celebration of the great man himself, Sir David Attenborough who turns 100 today! 💯🌎🐛🐞🐢🐦

🍍🍉🥔🥕 FRUIT & VEGETABLE WEEK! The children enjoyed trying all sorts of lovely fruits in their smoothies and fruit kebabs - we tried adding spinach for the first time, learning that it makes us STRONG! This came in handy later in the week when we explored the book Handa's Surprise, trying all the fruits, matching them to their animal from the story and attempting to carry Handa's basket full of fruits on our heads, just like in the story! Some great balancing went on!  Out in the garden, we enjoyed cleaning lots of vegetables at our water tray and discussed the importance of food hygiene, before using balance scales to compare the weight of different vegetables, and explored the fact that the biggest isn’t necessarily the heaviest! For Save The Frogs Day we made frogs in our art corner and headed to the newly restored pond in the woods, looking for our green friends.  For International Dance Day we reprised our country dancing skills from earlier this year - we were so impressed how the children remembered so many of the steps! 💃🕺🐸💚

The children kindly left water trays out by the bug hotel yesterday for our local wildlife, as we knew it was going to be a hot day! We captured a robin taking a refreshing bath first thing this morning! 🐦❤️

We have nesting blue t**s at nursery by the gate, we have set up our wildlife camera and will see what we capture over the coming weeks! We definitely need to be extra cautious near the bird box, we can do this! How exciting! 🐦😊

🐞🐢🌎LIFE CYCLES WEEK! This week we were focussed on lifecycles.  We enjoyed bug hunts in the forest, learnt lots of fun facts about a variety of insects, reptiles and birds and took a closer look at the lifecycle of a ladybird and a turtle! We learn that the most common number of spots on a ladybird is 7 and turtles date back as far as the time of the dinosaurs! We celebrated Earth Day by talking about the importance of recycling.  We made an earth picture in the art corner while discussing why we love our planet and we built and filled our own nursery bug hotel, talking about how it will offer bees, butterflies and ladybirds a safe place to hibernate and nest.  A very busy week! 🐞🐢🌎
