It’s going to be an emotional Christmas party tomorrow, as it marks our final day with the children. Sadly, Caterpillars will be closing at the end of this term. With the landlords significantly increasing the rent, our little nursery simply can’t sustain the cost.
For nearly 10 wonderful years, Caterpillars has been a place filled with fun, learning, and love. We’ve always been proud to go above and beyond for our children and our staff. Over the years, we’ve supported so many children to grow, thrive, and exceed their potential. We’ve pushed for children to secure EHCPs and attend schools where they can get the education and support they truly need. We’ve stood by families, offered help whenever it was needed, and fought to ensure every child had a voice.
We’ve also supported many of our staff in training and qualifying as early years professionals — something we’re truly proud of.
I would like to extend my sincere gratitude to our current team — Natasha, Chloe and Amber. Despite the difficulties of recent months, they have continued to demonstrate outstanding professionalism.

The children have loved all the Halloween themed activities this week! We had our light box out with some hidden pictures!

The children then made their very own ghosts using cotton wool. They then created their own spooky Halloween pumpkins choosing different eyes, nose and mouth, learning about colours and shapes.

We then made our very own magic cauldrons too, the children watched them bubble up! The children were really surprised by the bubbling cauldrons and loved making more bubbles.

We finished the week off with our own pumpkin carving - this was a great sensory activity as children used their hands to scoop out the pumpkin, we spoke about what we could see, smell and feel.

We had special dressing up day too!

The highlight of the week was when the children got to wrap up each other up, and a lucky teacher too!

Lots of fun activities last week!
Our experienced staff team offer the children a wide range of activities suited to their learning. Theyve developed wonderful colour matching activities, using giant tweezers the children need to pick up their Pom poms.
We’ve also got some fabulous soft play resources, which the children have loved climbing using their arms and legs.
We’ve also provided special number recognition activities to develop confidence and fun with numbers.

Dinosaur week! We looked at what they eat, how they move, their different colours and what noises they make.
We put a display together using lots of different resources like glitter, tissue paper, stamps, paints and wool. We learnt about the life cycle of the dinosaur, eggs, hatching and then dinosaur.

We had our very own snap dinos out where children used their fine motor skills to clip the pieces together.

We created a dinosaur swamp where children where children had sensory play with different textures such as, cornflour gloop, rice, conkers and porridge oats all mixed with glitter. The children enjoyed exploring this activity and spoke about what they could see and feel.

At the end of the week we had our very own dinosaur come to visit us 😂 the dinosaur showed us how they stomp around and roar, the children joined in and all became dinosaurs 🤣

We finished the week off spending time reading different dinosaurs books quietly on the carpet

This week has been all about me. The children made all about me catterpillars, children were asked questions about their likes, such as favourite colour, favourite toy and favourite food.

Children and staff then created their own portraits for our gallery wall. We looked in the mirror and discussed what colour our skin, eyes and hair is. We then made our portraits. This activity helped children with their personal and social skills, communication, their fine motor skills and their hand eye coordination.
