🌿 A little update from us at Little Places 🌿
A huge thank you for all your lovely messages and enquiries 💕 We’ve received quite a few recently and we promise we’ll get back to everyone next week.
We’re currently busy settling in some new little faces and, as you can imagine, building those all-important bonds and making our little ones feel safe and happy always comes before the admin 🥰
💚 *January availability* 💚
We currently have ONE funded, term-time space available from January.
📅 3 days per week- Monday, Tuesday and Friday available
👶 Ideally suited to a little one aged 9–18 months, so they can join our current cohort and grow, learn and play alongside them.

Please take a little look at the guidance below. These are practices we have always followed at Little Places, but there is now updated official guidance for early years providers which reinforces the importance of safe sleep practices.
Our little ones’ safety is always our number one priority ❤️

🚗🎨 *From Cars to Stamps to Hands!* 🖐️🍂
Today's messy play evolved beautifully as the children's curiosity led the way!
We started by using toy cars to zoom through bright neon paint, creating exciting tracks and patterns across the foil. 🚗💨
Once the paint was spread, the children discovered they could use autumn-themed stamps to make wonderful prints and explore the different textures. 🍁🍂
And of course... it wasn't long before little hands joined in too! 🖐️ The children loved feeling the paint between their fingers, making swirls, handprints, and exploring the sensory experience together.
Open-ended activities like this encourage creativity, fine motor development, sensory exploration, and lots of imaginative play. Best of all, every child explored in their own unique way. 💛

🌳📚 Introducing our brand new Library Tree! 📚🌳
We’re so excited to share this cosy new reading corner with the children.... a special space designed to spark imagination, curiosity and a lifelong love of books. 💚✨
Reading in the early years is about so much more than learning letters and words. Books help children to:
📖 Build early language and communication skills
🧠 Develop concentration, memory and listening skills
💭 Grow imagination, creativity and problem-solving
❤️ Understand feelings, empathy and the world around them
🔤 Strengthen the foundations needed for future reading and writing
Creating positive experiences with stories from a young age helps children see reading as something enjoyable, comforting and exciting. Our new Library Tree offers a calm, inviting space where little readers can explore books independently, share stories with friends and discover new interests every day. 🌍🍃
We can’t wait to see all the adventures, discussions and magical moments that happen beneath our tree. 🌳💫

🧱✨ The importance of block play ✨🧱

Last night we took part in training around block play and the huge impact it has on children’s learning and development. It was a great reminder that sometimes the simplest resources offer the richest learning opportunities.

Open-ended, non-coloured blocks encourage children to use their imagination, creativity and problem-solving skills without limits. Rather than being told what something should be, children create their own ideas, stories and possibilities.

Through block play, children develop:

🗣️ Language and communication skills
🤲 Fine motor skills and coordination
🧠 Problem solving and critical thinking
❤️ Confidence, resilience and perseverance
➕ Early maths concepts such as balance, size, shape and pattern
👫 Social skills including sharing, negotiating and teamwork

Block play doesn’t just belong in early years settings ... it can be encouraged at home too using blocks, cardboard boxes, cushions or recycled materials. Giving children time for uninterrupted, open-ended play supports curiosity and deeper learning.

At Little Places Childcare we value play-based learning, following children’s interests and creating opportunities for exploration every day. 🌿

Sometimes the simplest play experiences build the strongest foundations for future learning.

🕷️ Exploring nature through sensory play 🕷️🌷
Today we created an invitation to explore using flowers, rice, insects and natural materials. Sensory experiences like these may look simple, but they support so many important areas of learning and development. 💛
Through hands-on play, children are developing:
🐞 Language & communication – learning new words, describing textures, colours and creatures, and sharing ideas with friends.
🌸 Fine motor skills – picking up small objects, transferring materials and strengthening little hand muscles.
🕸️ Curiosity & critical thinking – asking questions, making connections and exploring the world around them.
🐝 PSED (Personal, Social & Emotional Development) – building confidence, learning alongside others, taking turns and expressing preferences.
🌿 Understanding the world – exploring nature, insects, life cycles and noticing similarities and differences.
At Little Places Childcare, we believe children learn best through play, exploration and following their own interests. Activities like this encourage curiosity, imagination and meaningful conversations. ✨
