🩷 My Breast Cancer Journey: A Call for Awareness

October is Breast Cancer Awareness Month, and I want to share my story to emphasize that not all breast cancer can be felt. This post also explains my recent absence from work.

My Unexpected Diagnosis

In July, my first over-50s mammogram revealed breast cancer—with no detectable lump. This routine screening potentially saved my life.

Shocking Statistics

- 30% of women nationwide and 40% in London don’t take advantage of free mammograms.
- 1 in 8 women will develop breast cancer in their lifetime.

The Importance of Early Detection

After two surgeries and awaiting radiotherapy, I’m grateful for early detection. While I believe screening should start younger (many women in their 40s, including my sister, are diagnosed), we’re fortunate to have this service available at 50.

Addressing Common Concerns

😱 Fear: Don’t be scared. Mammograms are quick, easy, and only mildly uncomfortable.

😳 Embarrassment: The process is discreet and respectful, conducted by women in a safe space.

😶 No Visible Symptoms: Remember, I had no lumps or symptoms—mammograms can detect what you can’t feel.

✉️ Access: You’ll receive an invitation around your 50th birthday. If not, consult your GP. Under 50? See your GP if you notice any breast changes.

🙈 Denial: It’s natural to think “it won’t happen to me,” but early detection is crucial. There’s no harm in checking.

Don’t wait. If you’re due for a mammogram, schedule it today. Early detection can make all the difference in your breast cancer journey.

This is why I love what I do. Meeting an amazing group of therapists in one day for Cryopen Training.

My morning session with Nilam, Jacqui, Brett, Petra and Indiah and , an amazing team of therapists.

Then the afternoon with Marzanna and Maria , who are two independent therapists who met doing dermapen training and help support each other, coming together to do their cryopen training.

What a great day, all learning more to progress in what they love doing.......treating the skin! ❤️
