What a busy week this has been at Learning Together Online. The Business Finance (for BTEC) revision course is well under way on a Wednesday evening and I have delivered two in person revision courses this week, one for Edexcel A Level and one for AQA A Level all in addition to my individual exam prep sessions. It has been tiring but satisfying.

Soon it will be time to start focusing on designing the membership & resources for the new AQA Business A Level.

But for now it is time for some well deserved downtime and a day out with the hubby! No work, no emails, just time to re-charge ready for next weeks sessions.

Dynamic Pricing in Retail - A Level Business Discussion Activity

Hello my lovely Business Studies Colleagues! How is the exam prep going? I am absolutely flat out tutoring students - having left the classroom last year, the plan was to be not so busy - it hasn't worked out that way!!

If your𝐀𝐐𝐀 𝐀 𝐋𝐞𝐯𝐞𝐥 𝐁𝐮𝐬𝐢𝐧𝐞𝐬𝐬 students are revising by reading notes and highlighting, this might help.

A couple of weeks ago I shared an Edexcel version of a resource called 𝐋𝐢𝐧𝐤𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐓𝐡𝐞𝐨𝐫𝐢𝐞𝐬 and the response from teachers was huge.

After the popular demand for that resource, I’ve created it again, this time for AQA.

I know that many Business teachers are short on time but still want revision that actually develops exam skills, not just content recall.

So this resource is designed to be instant to use and genuinely useful.

𝐋𝐢𝐧𝐤𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐓𝐡𝐞𝐨𝐫𝐢𝐞𝐬 is an active revision task where students are given two terms from the specification and must build a technically accurate, logically connected argument that starts with one and ends with the other.

To do this well, students have to:
• 𝐭𝐡𝐢𝐧𝐤 𝐜𝐚𝐫𝐞𝐟𝐮𝐥𝐥𝐲 𝐚𝐛𝐨𝐮𝐭 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐜𝐨𝐧𝐜𝐞𝐩𝐭𝐬

Today I attended my very first Alternative Provision conference and I honestly didn’t know what to expect.

I left completely blown away.

Blown away by the relentless commitment of people working every single day to secure better outcomes for young people whose needs are not met by mainstream education. The creativity. The care. The determination to ensure that no child is written off simply because mainstream school has not been the right fit.

I saw curriculums designed to rebuild foundations, identify gaps in learning and confidence, and help young people move forward at any stage of their journey. Provision that meets students where they are, not where a system expects them to be.

And I listened to an inspirational man who was so much more than a speaker. There were moments I was fighting back tears and others where I was laughing just as hard. His message was honest, powerful and deeply human. I am really looking forward to reading his book Drip by Drip, Day by Day.

What struck me most was this: Alternative Provision is not about lowering expectations. It is about rebuilding belief. It is about high standards, delivered differently. It is about understanding that progress sometimes happens drip by drip, day by day.

To parents reading this, if mainstream has not worked for your child, please know this. There are professionals working tirelessly to create environments where your child can feel safe, capable and successful.

As someone said to me at the end of the day, “You’ve found your tribe.”

And they were right.

This is who we are. And I am proud to be part of it.

I have created a free resource called Linking the Theories and it is designed to be active revision, not passive review.

Sorry it’s been a little quiet on here lately - I’ve been slightly behind on posting resources while I’ve been busy sorting out the legal side of bringing other tutors on board ready for AP. More on that soon.

In the meantime, here’s a free resource for you lovely lot.
It’s an applied exercise on factors affecting business location, with a strong focus on application and evaluation, not just listing theory.

It’s primarily aimed at GCSE Business (as all specs use the same location factors), but it also works really well at A Level, especially as a starter or recap activity.
