The Importance of Risky Play in Early Childhood

As parents and carers, our instinct is often to protect children from every possible bump, fall, or mistake. But what if some of those "risky" moments are actually some of the most important opportunities for learning?
From climbing, balancing, and exploring, to trying something new or solving a challenge independently, risky play helps children develop confidence, resilience, problem-solving skills, body awareness, and judgement.
Risky play isn't about exposing children to danger. It's about giving them the opportunity to assess challenges, make decisions, and learn what they are capable of in a safe and supported environment.
