☀️❤️ It’s been a busy few weeks here at Streetly ACC! ❤️☀️

From welcoming new members to enjoying gentle exercise together (while trying to outsmart the summer heat! ☀️), it’s certainly been an eventful few weeks.

A huge thank you to everyone who has joined us recently and to our wonderful members who continue to make Streetly ACC such a friendly, welcoming place to be.

As the school holidays begin, we’re also getting ready for a little summer break of our own.

This Thursday will be our final session before we break up for August.

After a fantastic start to the year, we’ll be taking a few weeks to enjoy some well-deserved time with our friends and families, recharge our batteries, and make the most of the summer.

Don’t worry though… we’ll still be here on Facebook over the summer, sharing updates, heart-health tips, and keeping in touch with our lovely community.

Then, before we know it, September will be here (we can’t quite believe we’re saying that already! 🍂), and we’ll be back together... refreshed, energised, and ready to head into autumn with plenty of smiles, laughter and gentle movement.

So, if you’ve been thinking about joining us, this Thursday is the perfect opportunity before our summer break.

❤️ Come for the movement.
🙂 Stay for the friendships.
👫 Leave feeling just that little bit better.

☀️❤️ What a busy couple of weeks it’s been here at Streetly ACC! ❤️☀️

We’ve celebrated a couple of fantastic England wins ⚽, navigated some seriously hot weather 🌡️, kept a close eye on everyone’s comfort and wellbeing, and now, somehow, we’re already preparing for the end of term!

Just like the schools, Streetly ACC will be taking a break during August.

It’s been a busy year, and we think we’ve all earned a little time to rest, recharge and enjoy everything the summer has to offer. But taking a break from our Thursday sessions doesn’t mean putting our wellbeing on pause.

Summer can be the perfect time for the simple things:

🌿 A gentle walk in the fresh air
☀️ Enjoying the garden or a day out
👫 Spending time with friends and family
💧 Keeping hydrated in the warmer weather
❤️ Moving in ways that feel enjoyable, not like a chore

Because looking after your heart doesn’t have to mean doing more. Sometimes, it means slowing down, reconnecting and enjoying the moments that make us feel good.

We’ll still be active here on Facebook throughout the summer, so keep checking in, we’ve got plenty to share and some exciting things to come when we return in September! 👀

In the meantime, we’d love to hear from you…

💬 What are you looking forward to most this summer?

A holiday? A day trip? Time in the garden? Seeing family? Or simply enjoying a few slower mornings with nowhere you need to be?

Whatever your summer looks like, enjoy it, stay safe, keep gently moving, and keep connected. ❤️

Here’s to a wonderful summer! ☀️❤️

☀️❤️ A little update from all of us at Streetly ACC… ❤️☀️

It’s been a little quieter than usual on our page over the last few days.

After that scorching heatwave, we thought we’d all take a moment to slow down, catch our breath, and do exactly what we encourage everyone else to do, listen to our bodies.

Last week, we made the difficult decision to cancel our Thursday session. With temperatures reaching uncomfortable levels, the safety and wellbeing of our members had to come first. Looking after your heart sometimes means recognising when it’s better to rest than to push on.

Thankfully, the weather has cooled, and we’re really looking forward to welcoming everyone back this Thursday for an evening of gentle movement, friendly faces and plenty of laughs.

As always, we’ll continue to keep a close eye on the forecast. If the warmer weather returns, as it’s expected to over the coming weeks, we’ll keep everyone updated here on Facebook should we need to make any changes.

After all, heart health isn’t just about keeping active.

It’s also about:
❤️ Knowing when to slow down.
💧 Staying hydrated.
☀️ Respecting the weather.
👫 Looking out for one another.

That’s exactly what our Streetly ACC community is all about.

So, let’s enjoy everything summer has to offer, longer evenings, brighter days, time with family and friends, and when Thursday comes around, we’ll be ready to get moving together once again.

☀️⚽❤️ Hot weather, happy hearts, and come on England! ❤️⚽☀️

What a week it’s been!

The sun has certainly got its hat on, England are celebrating a fantastic win on Wednesday night, and summer seems determined to remind us that it’s finally arrived.

Firstly, a huge congratulations to the England team. We’ll certainly be cheering them on again when they take to the pitch on Tuesday. ⚽🏆

But while footballers are preparing for the heat with hydration breaks, cooling strategies and careful recovery, there’s a useful reminder in there for all of us too.

❤️ Your heart works harder in hot weather.

When temperatures rise, your heart has to pump more blood around the body to help keep you cool. That’s why it’s especially important during warmer spells to look after yourself.

A few simple heart-friendly tips:

💧 Keep a drink close by and stay hydrated
☀️ Avoid being outside during the hottest part of the day if possible
😎 Wear light, loose-fitting clothing
🚶‍♀️ If you’re exercising, take it at your own pace
❤️ Listen to your body and don’t be afraid to rest

One thing we love about Streetly ACC is that we know heart health isn’t about pushing yourself to the limit.

It’s about consistency.

It’s about community.

It’s about looking after yourself in ways that are enjoyable, sustainable, and supportive.

And speaking of support, one of the most important messages regularly shared by heart health charities is that staying active, staying connected, and keeping an eye on your blood pressure are some of the most powerful things we can do for our long-term heart health.

So whether you’re enjoying the sunshine, watching the football, pottering in the garden, or simply catching up with friends, remember:

❤️ Keep cool.
❤️ Keep hydrated.
❤️ Keep moving.
❤️ Keep smiling.

And if you’d like to do all four in good company, we’d love to welcome you along.

⚽❤️ What can the World Cup teach us about heart health? ❤️⚽

As football fans around the world tune into the action, there are some fascinating changes happening behind the scenes this year… and they all have one thing in common:

Looking after people.

One of the lesser-known rules being used during matches is the introduction of weather safety protocols. If lightning is detected within an 8mile distance of the stadium, play is suspended and everyone leaves the pitch until it’s safe to continue.

Then there’s the heat.

With temperatures rising during summer tournaments, players are now given scheduled cooling and hydration breaks during matches. Why? Because even the fittest athletes in the world need time to rest, recover, rehydrate, and look after their bodies.

And perhaps there’s a lesson in that for all of us.

❤️ Your heart works hard every single day.
❤️ It doesn’t matter whether you’re a professional footballer or simply enjoying a walk around the block.
❤️ In warmer weather, your body has to work harder to keep cool.

So as we move into the summer months, here are a few simple heart-friendly reminders:

💧 Keep hydrated throughout the day
☀️ Avoid prolonged activity in the hottest part of the afternoon
😎 Wear light clothing and seek shade where possible
🚶‍♀️ Keep moving, but listen to your body
❤️ Take regular breaks and don’t be afraid to slow down

Sometimes we think looking after our health means pushing harder.

The reality?

Even elite athletes are being reminded that recovery, hydration, and pacing yourself are part of staying healthy.

At Streetly ACC, we’ve always believed that looking after your heart isn’t about extremes. It’s about consistency, community, and finding movement that works for you.

So whether you’re watching the football, enjoying the sunshine, or simply making the most of the lighter evenings, remember:

Your heart deserves the same care and attention as the players on the pitch.

Come along, keep moving, make new friends, and give your heart something to cheer about. ❤️⚽

🌞❤️ And just like that… we’re in June! ❤️🌞

Can you believe we’re already six months through the year?

It only feels like yesterday we were talking about New Year’s resolutions, dark mornings and wrapping up against the winter weather. Yet here we are, stepping into a brand new month, with lighter evenings, greener trees, and a little more spring in our step.

Before we do anything else, we’d like to say a huge congratulations to all of our members who took part in this year’s Great Midland Fun Run (or the Sutton Fun Run, as many of us still affectionately call it!).

Whether you walked, jogged, ran, volunteered, cheered from the sidelines or simply supported others taking part, you should be incredibly proud. Events like these remind us that movement comes in many forms and that being part of a community is something truly special. ❤️

As we say goodbye to some of those scorchio days of May and welcome a fresher, but equally beautiful June, it’s the perfect time to pause and reflect:

💭 What have you achieved so far this year that you’re proud of?
💭 What positive habits have helped you feel better?
💭 What would you like the next six months to look like?
💭 What small step could you take today that your future self would thank you for?

Here’s a heart-health fact to think about:

❤️ Your heart beats around 100,000 times every day.
That’s over 18 million beats since the start of the year alone, and it’s been quietly working for you every second of every day.

Maybe June is the month to give something back.

Not through drastic changes.
Not through impossible goals.

But through simple things:
👫 Connecting with others
🙂 Sharing a laugh
🚶 Moving a little more
❤️ Looking after yourself

That’s what Streetly ACC has been doing for decades.

A friendly, welcoming group where people come together to keep active, support one another, and enjoy all the benefits that movement, friendship and community can bring.

A stronger heart.
And a warm welcome waiting for you

❤️🩺 Did you know this is one of the things that makes Streetly ACC so unique? 🩺❤️

On the first Thursday of every month, we’re joined by a local community nurse during our session, something we’ve proudly been doing for many, many years.

And honestly? We think that’s pretty special.

Because Streetly ACC has never just been about movement and exercise. It’s always been about looking after the whole person, supporting heart health, wellbeing, confidence, and community in a genuinely caring and practical way.

During these monthly visits, members can:
🩺 Have their blood pressure checked
❤️ Ask questions about heart health and wellbeing
💬 Chat through any concerns in a friendly, informal setting
📍 Receive advice or signposting if anything should be followed up with their GP or other services

It’s such a valuable way of helping people stay aware of their health within the community, and it’s one of the many reasons this group has been trusted and loved for so long.

How many local wellbeing or fitness groups can honestly say they offer that kind of ongoing support and connection?

At Streetly ACC, we know that prevention, awareness, and community matter. Sometimes, a simple blood pressure check or conversation can make all the difference.

Our next nurse visit will be:
📅 Thursday 4th June

So whether you come for the gentle movement, the friendships, the laughs, or the reassurance of knowing support is there when you need it, you’ll always be warmly welcomed.

🌿❤️ A toast to Sir David Attenborough on his 100th birthday. ❤️🌿

One hundred years old.
A century of curiosity, storytelling, wonder... and perhaps most importantly, connection.

Because when you think about Sir David Attenborough, you don’t just think about nature documentaries. You think about how he made people feel. He reminded us to slow down, to look around us, to appreciate the world, and to understand that everything is connected.

And maybe there’s a lesson in that for all of us when it comes to our own health and wellbeing.

🌿 Time in nature has been shown to reduce stress and lower blood pressure
☀️ Fresh air and daylight support mood, sleep, and heart health
🚶 Gentle movement... especially outdoors... supports circulation and overall wellbeing
🙂 Connection, curiosity, and purpose all play an important role in healthy ageing

Perhaps one of the reasons Sir David continues to inspire generations at 100 years old is because he never stopped engaging with the world around him. Never stopped learning. Never stopped moving forward with purpose.

And that’s something we believe in deeply at Streetly ACC.

Looking after your heart isn’t only about exercise. It’s about staying connected... to people, to community, to routine, and even to the world around us.

As we move towards summer, with greener trees, lighter evenings and more opportunities to get outside, maybe this is your reminder to:
🌿 Take the walk
☀️ Sit in the sunshine
❤️ Check in on a friend
👫 Stay connected
🙂 Keep moving... gently, steadily, consistently

Because healthy hearts are built in the small moments, repeated over time.

So here’s to Sir David Attenborough... a reminder that ageing can still be filled with curiosity, purpose, and wonder. 💚

Join us... Streetly ACC, Blackwood Methodist Church, Thursdays 7pm! See you there!!

🌼❤️ Hello May… a new month, a new energy. ❤️🌼

There’s something about the 1st May that just feels different, isn’t there?

The light’s around for longer.
The sun feels warmer.
And somehow… we feel a little lighter too.

And that’s not just in your head, there’s real science behind it.

☀️ Sunlight helps your body produce Vitamin D, which supports bone health, muscle function, and even your immune system
☀️ It also boosts serotonin… your “feel good” hormone, helping to lift mood and increase energy
☀️ More daylight helps regulate your sleep-wake cycle, meaning better rest and more consistent energy
☀️ And naturally, when the sun is out… we’re more likely to move, connect, and spend time outdoors, all of which support heart health ❤️

So if you’re feeling a little more energised, a little more motivated, a little more yourself… that’s why.

And maybe May is the perfect moment to pause and reflect:

💭 What have you done this year that you’re really proud of?
💭 What’s helped you feel good… physically or mentally?
💭 What would you still like to do, at your own pace?
💭 What does “feeling well” actually look like for you this summer?

Because it doesn’t have to be dramatic.
It doesn’t have to be a complete overhaul.

Sometimes it’s simply about:
❤️ Moving a little more
🙂 Feeling a little happier
👫 Being a little more connected

At Streetly ACC, that’s what we see every week. People showing up, not for perfection, but for progress. For community. For themselves.

So as we step into May, with brighter days ahead, maybe this is your time to lean into what feels good.

We’ll be here, as always, ready to welcome you.

☀️💚 We’re heading into May… and doesn’t it feel good? 💚☀️

Lighter evenings.
Brighter mornings.
A bit of sunshine (finally!) making a more regular appearance.

There’s something about this time of year that just lifts everything… your mood, your energy… and yes, even your heart. ❤️

And the lovely thing is, looking after your heart in this season doesn’t have to feel like hard work.

It can be as simple as:
🌿 Getting out for a bit of fresh air
🙂 Having a chat and a laugh
🚶‍♂️ Moving a little more than you did yesterday
👫 Spending time with people who make you feel good

Because here’s the truth, your heart doesn’t need extremes.
It just needs regular, gentle care.

At Streetly ACC, that’s exactly what we’re about.
A friendly, welcoming space to keep moving, keep connected, and keep your heart happy, all at your own pace.

No pressure.
No big mid year fitness-style promises.
Just a group of people doing something positive together, week by week.

So as we step into May, maybe this is your moment to:
💛 Get back into a routine
💛 Try something new (or come back to something familiar)
💛 Do something that makes you feel a little bit better

Because feeling good doesn’t have to be complicated.
