I am a Labour Councillor and I enjoy it immensely the meeting with residents and community events

Today, we gather to honour the life of a man who gave so much of himself to the people of Walsall — Councillor Dennis Anson.
His passing leaves a space in our community that will not be easily filled, because Dennis was not simply a public servant; he was a steady presence, a committed advocate, and a true champion for the town he loved.

Dennis dedicated many years of his life to serving Walsall with integrity, humility, and an unwavering sense of duty.
As a councillor, he was known for his fairness, his booming voice & his deep understanding of the people he represented, and his ability to listen — truly listen — to the concerns of residents.
He believed that local government should be rooted in compassion and common sense, and he lived that belief every day.

His time as Mayor of Walsall was a particular point of pride, not for the title itself, but for the opportunity it gave him to bring people together. Dennis carried out his mayoral duties with warmth and dignity, always mindful that he was representing the whole borough. Whether he was attending community events, supporting local charities, or welcoming visitors to the town, he did so with a genuine smile and a generous heart.

But beyond the roles and responsibilities, Dennis will be remembered for the person he was. He had a kindness that put people at ease, a sense of humour that could brighten even the most difficult meetings, and a grounded, honest way of speaking that made others feel valued. He believed in doing the right thing, even when it wasn’t the easy thing, and that quiet strength earned him the respect of colleagues across the political spectrum.

For his family and friends, Dennis was a source of love, pride, and constancy. For his community, he was a tireless advocate. For Walsall, he was — and will remain — a part of its story.

As we say goodbye, we also say thank you. Thank you, Dennis, for your service. Thank you for your dedication. Thank you for the years you spent working to make Walsall a better place for all who call it home.

Your legacy lives on in the lives you touched, the improvements you championed, and the example you set. May you rest in peace, knowing that your work mattered, and that you will be remembered with gratitude and affection.

RIP DENNIS
