St Bernadette’s Catholic Primary School Admissions Consultations;

1. Significant change to determined admissions arrangements 2023-2024

2. Significant change to determined admissions arrangements 2024-2025

3. Admissions arrangements for entry 2025-2026

1. Significant change to determined admissions arrangements 2023-2024
Determination Year – 2022-2023
Offer Year – 2023-2024

The Board of Directors for St John Bosco Catholic Academy as the admissions authority for St Bernadette’s Catholic Primary School, Narrow Lane, Brownhills, Walsall, West Midlands, WS8 6HX, propose to reduce pupil numbers in the current reception class (determined admissions arrangements for 23-24) from 30 to 15.

This consultation will run from 3 October 2023 to 31 October 2023.

2. Significant change to determined admissions arrangements 2024-2025
Determination Year – 2023-2024
Offer Year – 2024-2025

The Board of Directors for St John Bosco Catholic Academy as the admissions authority for St Bernadette’s Catholic Primary School, Narrow Lane, Brownhills, Walsall, West Midlands, WS8 6HX, propose to reduce PAN for entry 2024-2025 from 30 to 15.

This consultation will run from 3 October 2023 to 31 October 2023

3. Admissions arrangements for entry 2025-2026
Determination Year – 2024-2025
Offer Year – 2025-2026

The Board of Directors for St John Bosco Catholic Academy as the admissions authority for St Bernadette’s Catholic Primary School, Narrow Lane, Brownhills, Walsall, West Midlands, WS8 6HX, propose to reduce PAN for entry 2025-2026 from 30 to 15.
This consultation will run from 3 October 2023 to 14 November 2023

Rationale

Pupil numbers at St Bernadette's have steadily declined over a number of years resulting in only half the PAN being allocated each year since 2019.

Despite a comprehensive marketing campaign, only 13 pupils entered into Reception in September 2023. Mixed classes were put in place.

Investigation with Walsall Local Authority place planning has found that the reason for the decline is due to less primary age pupils living in the immediate area. To continue with a PAN of 30 is not financially sustainable, and to continue the current year with vacancies on roll Is a risk to the viability of the mixed class should a mid-year admission or fair access request be made.

A copy of the determined admissions policies for 2023-2024 and 2024-2025 can be accessed on the school website https://www.stbernadette.walsall.sch.uk/

Proposed admissions policy for 2025-2026 can be provided on request. Please contact Amanda Moore, [email protected].

If you wish to comment on the proposed admissions arrangements for 2025-2026, please contact Amanda Moore, [email protected].
