Thank a Teacher Day
Wednesday 17th June 2026
National Thank a Teacher Day is an annual UK-wide celebration that invites pupils, parents, colleagues, and former students to recognise the teachers, teaching assistants, support staff, and education professionals who shape young lives. Today is a chance to highlight the lasting difference an educational community can make, not only in academic achievement but in confidence, character and wellbeing.
A big thank you to everyone at Blue Coat Church of England Academy.

His Majesty, King Charles III, Trooping of the Colour 2026
Today, we join the nation in honouring His Majesty The King’s Birthday Parade – a tradition of precision, dedication, and unity that has stood the test of time.
As the colours are trooped before the Sovereign, we are reminded of the words from 1 Peter 2:17 – “Honour everyone. Love the brotherhood. Fear God. Honour the king.”
Just as the regiments march in perfect step, may we also walk together in faith, service, and love – standing firm for what is good, true, and noble.
God save the King. ✝️👑

Empathy Day 11th June 2026
Empathy is being able to experience and understand other people’s feelings and point of view.
Empathy is made up of 3 elements:
• FEELING: where we resonate with other people’s feelings
• THINKING: where we use reason and imagination to work out how someone else feels
• ACTING: where we are inspired to help others, having experienced what they are feeling
“Clothe yourself with compassion, kindness, humility and patience”
This verse reminds us that empathy is a trait we should consciously practice daily and aligns with the Christian ethos of our Academy.

World Environment Day, 5th June 2026, and Year 7 Eco-Committee
Friday 5th June was World Environment Day, an annual day to turn focus to the world and environment around us.
2026 focuses on climate change—on the urgent signals the Earth is sending and the signals we choose to send back. UNEP’s global campaign calls on all of us to step in , and steer a world already in motion.
For decades, the world has heard the climate story—warnings, targets, distant deadlines. Too often, the response has been clouded by noise: delay, distraction, denial.
But listen closer now. Beneath the noise, another signal is rising. Solar panels stretch across rooftops. Wind turbines line the horizon. Cities are being redesigned for people. Forests are being replanted. Climate solutions are taking root in every corner of the planet.
Here at Blue Coat Church of England Academy, our Eco-Committee meet fortnightly to address how we can help our world and this aligns with the Christian ethos of our school. Every small action and local change can make a difference.
Mrs Virk heads the Eco-Committee and has been impressed by this Year 7’s commitment to creating a more environmentally-aware school particularly with the initiative to reminding everyone around the Academy to turn off lights and electronics when not in use.

We have another group of Year 10 pupils taking part in an Apprenticeship taster Day at In-Comm, seeing the types of skills they can pick up in the future. Another group of Year 10 pupils represented the Academy at The King’s Trust, pitching a business plan for a sustainable, eco-friendly and healthy smoothie enterprise. To have made it to the Regional Finals of the The King’s Trust Enterprise Challenge is a major achievement. Finally, dates for your diary for June.

Year 10 take part in Apprenticeship Taster Day at In-Comm, Aldridge.
Another group of our Year 10s visited In-Comm on Monday 18th May 2026, to gain an insight into a day in the life of an apprentice; what skills and qualities are needed when going through the application and interview process.
On arrival, pupils were greeted by STEM Engagement Lead, Leanne, who took the group for a tour of the site to see the different areas where the apprentices are trained, meeting some of the trainers and apprentices along the way. They were helpful in answering some of our students’ questions and giving them lots of information about the different roles and companies In-Comm work alongside.
Next the students were set a challenge- they had to design a mechanical system to transport a ball safely both vertically and horizontally for 200mm. They were able to use which ever mechanism they wanted to move the ball effectively along their design.
The teams had some time to plan, design, make and test their designs before being judged by some of the apprentices based at In-Comm. They were given feedback about their design before the winning team was announced. All of the teams came up with brilliant designs.
A big thank you to Leanne from In-Comm and Miss Addison in supporting our pupils for the day.

The King’s Trust Enterprise Challenge 2026: Regional Final 2026- Year 10 deliver environmentally friendly ‘Smoothie’ pitch
Blue Coat Academy were one of only five schools at the event on 19th May at The King’s Trust Centre in Birmingham to be chosen to attend this exciting event.
Our team had to design, develop and pitch a business plan to a prestigious judging panel. The team prepared and delivered an excellent pitch for their sustainable and eco-friendly business idea, speaking confidently and with conviction with a clearly laid out business plan.
The pupils had a tour of the Birmingham centre, then had some time to practice their pitch before lunch. Then on to the main event in the afternoon, our Year 10 entrepreneurs presented first and set the bar high. After all five schools had delivered their pitches, the judges were off to deliberate. In the interim, there was an inspirational speaker- Hezron Brown; he’s won awards such as King’s Trust Ambassador of the Year and a Pride of Britain award. He gave an incredible snapshot into his journey of where is today. He has helped countless young people by his story of being involved in a life of crime and being given a second chance and seizing this with both hands. He now talks to thousands of young people to help steer them away from gangs, drugs and violence. He was incredibly passionate about what he does and such an inspiration to all in the room.
Blue Coat Academy narrowly missed out on winning. The team put in an incredible amount of work and were a real credit to us all and walked away with their heads held high. Well done you were AMAZING.
Thank you to Miss Addison in supporting our students, what an experience for everyone.
