“Hey Lily, what did you do at Animal Insights last week?” I hear you ask! Well, I’ll tell you…
We looked at pollinators! One child had already started learning about the topic and brought in their butterfly lapbook to show us! As a group, we learnt about how plants reproduce and identified parts of a flower - using real life examples to help us see the huge variation in flowers’ sizes, shapes and colours. 🌷🪻🌹🌻
We also discovered how pollen is transferred from one flower to another, with the children’s crafted “pollinators”. It was a wonderful way to bring the science of pollination to life! 🌸🐝
We also discussed why pollinators are so important in our ecosystems and played a game to help show us the impact when we remove pollinators. That led us to discover some more u usual pollinator species, including birds, lizards and even small mammals! 🦎🐭
We ended the session by getting messy and making wildflower seed bombs to take away and scatter in our green spaces (which is okay because they’re native wildflower species!) 💚
Thank you to everyone who joined me for this fantastic session! 🦋🪲🐝
