Farewell, Hugh Broughton Makins 🤍
It is with great sadness that we share the passing of our dear friend and long-term community member, Hugh Broughton Makins.

For over two decades, Hugh’s warmth, humour, generosity and commitment to community life touched countless people who passed through Braziers Park. Whether tending the fire, sharing conversation, or offering words of quiet wisdom, he made Braziers feel like home. We are deeply grateful for all he gave to our community. Hugh will be greatly missed!

In Hugh’s own words, “I’m 95 and I don’t feel old at all. I’m part of a community of all sorts of people and all sorts of ages. Take a little bit of Braziers wherever you go.”

📰 We were delighted to be featured in a recent Sunday Times article exploring life within an intentional community in the UK.

The piece offers a glimpse into daily life at Braziers Park – from communal meals, shared work, and collective decision-making to creativity, education, and the joys and challenges of living together. Featuring interviews with residents and staff, the article explores what it means to be part of a community that has been experimenting with new ways of living, learning, and relating for over 76 years 💫

A huge thank you to Ella Kipling and photographer Dan Joseph for spending time with us and capturing the spirit of Braziers so thoughtfully 💚

🎨✨ Children’s Clay Club is coming to Braziers Park! ✨🎨

Join us on Saturday 18 July (10–11am) for a fun and creative Tile Painting Workshop designed especially for children aged 7–12+.

Led by ceramicist and sculptor Ariadna Alvarez (Ariadna Alvarez), children will decorate their own pre-made clay tile using ceramic paints, stamps, textures, and simple clay techniques. Inspired by nature, storytelling, and imagination, they will create a unique piece of artwork to take home the very same day.

This relaxed, hands-on session is perfect for beginners and offers a calm space to explore colour, pattern, and creativity while learning a little about the world of ceramics.

🌿 No experience needed
🎨 All materials provided
🏡 Take your finished tile home on the day
👧 Suitable for ages 7–12+ (KS2)

Tickets at £10 per child including materials.

Spaces are limited, so booking is recommended. We can’t wait to see what wonderful creations emerge! ✨
